Spem in alium
I'm soon leaving for an overseas study program, and I booked my return flights for December 23 (Sunday). It will take me two days to get home - I arrive on Christmas morning. My concern is that I may miss Mass - not just on the 23rd, but also on Christmas Day - due to the time that I need to leave my College to be at the airport and the time that I fly in. There's also an issue with jetlag - I know I will be exhausted due to the time difference. It is by no means my intention to miss Mass on those days so of course I am going to try and prevent it, but I am wondering what I should do if I am not able to fulfill the obligation. Would it be something I would need to confess? Thank you! God bless.
cappie
When a person is traveling and, for just reason, is unable to attend Mass, one is dispensed from the Sunday obligation and does not commit sin by not going to Mass.
