Annie12
Are there a set of written or unwritten rules for dating in the church? Thanks!
Annie12
...I mean besides the obvious stuff. Are there any rules about kissing and how long you have to date before marraige? I;m trying to prepare myself if I ever get in a relationship.
EmilyAnn
The Church doesn't have official rules as such that I know of. I found this site has some good stuff about how far is too far and marriage and stuff, well worth reading. When I felt called to marriage it helped me a lot. tinytherese
Christian Courtship in an Oversexed World: A Guide for Catholics is a good book on the subject.
Vincent Vega
Take your height (in centimeters). Add that to the circumference of all of your limbs. Subtract 10 for each missing digit (if applicable). Weigh yourself, taking the measurement in cwt. Multiply that number by the previous number. Divide by the number of dinette sets you have ever dined at (restaurants nonwithstanding). This is the percentage of one year that the church says you must date before becoming engaged. (CCC §1633) The rules for how long the engagement must last are even more complex and involve integral calculus, so get to the point of being engaged, and we'll go further. Lil Red
usually when people ask "how far is too far?" it's always in context of pushing the envelope towards sinning instead of away from sinning. just something to keep in mind.
KnightofChrist
There are 'rules' for dating. For example passionate kissing (aka making out, etc) is forbidden to the unmarried. This may be of help: http://www.audiosancto.org/sermon/20040912-Dating-6th-and-9th-Commandments.html
sixpence
Avoid doing things that lead you OR the other person to lustful thoughts, AKA don't intentionally tempt yourself. This may vary from person to person, and it can also be really challenging, but it is a great way to learn to work together toward holiness with your potential spouse.
Don't have sex, don't do drugs, don't get drunk, don't put yourself in a place of temptation, don't date for the sake of dating, actually discern if the person is the one you want to marry. That's just about it.
PhuturePriest
Jason Evert has some great stuff for dating. Here is a segment for "How Far Is Too Far?" http://chastity.com/chastity-qa/how-far-too-far/how-far-too-far And here is another for dating in general http://chastity.com/chastity-qa/dating/dating

I understand that 20 mins is hard to find since you are a married woman with wonderful and beautiful children. And that being the case the sermon didn't speak to you directly. But I posted it for Annie not so much yourself.
