the171
Yes. I was made leader of music for liturgy for the diocese's youth ministry schtuff. Let's just say the mass how it is done right now for youth is super bad and disrespectful. I need to find a good mass setting that is reverent but will keep their attention. I'm hoping to stay away from drums and electric guitar. Also, music books and resources? PLEASE HELP ME. I was NOT ready for this load to be placed upon me. Jesus must really love me. FutureCarmeliteClaire
Traditional hymns (if you're looking for English stuff), and I'm talking "He Who Would Valiant Be" and the like. http://www.canticanova.com/index.html Everything you ever need for liturgical planning. And I know some people if you want hook ups to to get good ideas and music and stuff, I know a guy. Mm, and I'm praying for you as you take on this big job! Brother Adam
Offer praise and worship outside of the Mass itself because teens love it. Capture the transcendent mystery of God through Traditional polyphony or hymns (if you have to) in the Mass. If it is beautiful, they will appreciate it. missionseeker
I have a degree in Sacred Music. Let me look a few things up and see if I can come up with something helpful by tomorrow. One hymnal that I REALLY REALLY recommend is the Vatican II Hymnal. Actually, anything from ccwatershed website should be helpful. I would stay away from OCP (Oregon Catholic Press) and GIA (But I forgot what those are) they tend to be very... out there. I would think that you would want something simple, and I am sure that CCWatershed has something.PM if you have more specific questions.

BG45
GIA does Gather, and I'd second not really recommending it. It has some good things, but it also has every single Catholic hymn that's ever managed to grate on my nerves.

Spirit & Song makes me vomit. I was seeking to buy the Parish Book of Chant and the VII Hymnal actually It looks like HEAVEN.
I don't want to take yours. I'll be adjusting and annotating it like a boss. (making it easier because most of these kids have never even heard of St. Gregory. Let alone gregorian chant.) I've never been given such a heavy responsibility. Turtles, holding babies, and owning a dog. But nothing this great.
missionseeker
Meh I have TONS of chant books and I don't really use it. I've already annotated it some though : p Seriously if you still want it when I can get it (and I really don't know when that'll be ) it is yours. brianthephysicist
I could be wrong, but I think USAir is a good source for this stuff too.
I'll echo the Vat II hymnal - scary name, but I was really impressed the first time I saw it. The Adoremus hymnal is a good one, too. Those two are easily the best Catholic hymnals, and they both have a lot of chant in them.
Vincent Vega
And of course, if you're feeling bold and ever looking to try Palestrina, de Lasso, Tallis, Byrd, etc., all of that stuff is availble in the public domain. I recommend here or here.
