Yes.

They need to do background checks and training.

I will be helping some Deacons teach RCIA to the inmates.

I AM a bit nervous, tbh.... Never been to a jail. No idea what it's like....I tend not to stress over stuff like this, but iono... I not worried about 'me', just that I do a good job and am able to look past people's current 'situation', and like see the person in the image in which they were made....but then I wonder about their victims and well..what about them? Not sure...just more inner conflicts leading to inner doubts.... I figure I will go to help, and the other stuff will work out....

MIKolbe ... you will LOVE it. (I don't know ... just a hunch).

I went once ... with a deacon and a music ministry. I will *NEVER* forget it. It was a medium security facility.

We did I think two communion services.

One thing made my day -- and I will always carry this in my heart:

When we were leaving and were being escorted from building to building in order to leave, an inmate shouted from the top of his lungs from his cell:

"God bless you!"

That made the experience worth while -- and the only reason I don't go now is that I don't have a consistent time to commit (I can't commit time every week). Otherwise -- my guitar and I would oh-so-be-there.

Don't worry too much Jason, it really depends on the jail tbh. It can either be an overcrowded and quite possibly dangerous hellhole...or pretty chill. Our local jail is really clean and polite compared to most, because of the rather progressive bent of the woman who used to be the warden.

Just pray. The people at the front desk will hopefully realize you're new and walk you through everything you need to do to check in and then call you back. Most have lockers for you to put your car keys, cell, and other stuff in for 50 cents or so. No phone or anything else once you're inside the actual facility. The check in form will probably require things along the line of: Time, date, signature, your business, car make and model and license plate.
