I don't have enough hours in my life to watch silly stuff.... so I ain't watchin'.

I dunno. This whole LWCR thing just makes me sad.

Rather than hooting at them, it just makes me want to pray for them all the harder. All of them. Because God can and does do miracles, and that includes turning around hearts. All these women entered religious life to serve God.... and I know and believe that God can transform even the keynote speaker... whether or not she is a religious (I don't think she is.).

We need to pray for them. ALL of them. INTENSELY. Now and especially during their conference.

Brother Adam

From Father Z:

In the first open session, the featured speaker, futurist Barbara Marx Hubbard, was led through the assembly hall at the Millennium Hotel by several sisters who were waving orange scarves draped over their arms. [?!?]
Once on the stage, the sisters moved in a circle around Hubbard as they raised and lowered the scarves and the assembly was asked to extend their hands in blessing while singing, “Spirit of vision, Spirit of life! Spirit of courage, be with her now! Wisdom and Truth be on her lips!”
["Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and howlet's wing,--
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble."]

I essentially heard, "We're not needing to reform like the Vatican says, THEY NEED TO REFORM!"
“Almost all structures are top down,” Hubbard continued, giving the examples of nations, states, organized religions and corporations. “So what is needed today,” she continued, “is a radical reform of existing institutions from their top-down version.”
Also a lot of new age stuff that tapped on early 20th century philosophy that's become hip suddenly in popular culture about our collective consciousness as a species ala the noosphere. Which some even take to the point, at times, though Hubbard didn't, that humanity is going to transcend mortality as we link our collective consciousness and achieve apotheosis...Godhood. I truly hope that Sister Hubbard is going with the old school definition (which is still a bit out there) and not the new agey "let's achieve Godhood" one.

Good grief!

Standard-issue New Age mumbo-jumbo the essence of cow.

Yes, it is a shame that these liberal orders for decades now have been following non-Christian new-agey "spirituality," at the expense (and often outright rejection) of solid orthodox Catholic teaching. There's no reason to promote this nonsense because you can find parallels here and there with Christian belief.

We should pray for the souls of all involved, but before everyone freaks, we should put this in perspective; It's an octogenarian new age guru-ess babbling to a bunch of octogenarian liberal nuns. The orders that are growing and thriving, rather than dying out, are orthodox.

Basilisa Marie

Just like to point out to all the lurkers who don't go over to Vocation Station that most of the orders in the LCWR are plenty orthodox; it's the leadership of this organization that needs serious reform. I don't want people to get the impression that we're saying that all the LCWR orders are terrible.

Thanks for the clarification because, yes, that's the impression I was getting.

But if they want to start a fight that makes people avoid VS like the plague, it's an accusation to make there. All (sort of kidding/personal experience after reading such a topic) aside, great clarification!

I've seen Hasan, USAirways and Winchester edited by moderators many a time, but I must say, this is the first time I have ever seen a self edit by a moderator.

That's because we have the option of editing posts without leaving an "edited" tag on it. It's pretty safe to bet that a handful of the moderators / admins self-edit about 60+% of the time. :|

I edit others for egregious spelling and grammar, especially when I know they're just tired or drunk.
