OwNeD_byGoD
in a revelation given to blessed theresa of calcutta, hours before she died: one of the last signs of the revelation happening and taking place was going to be a unity in religion... jasJis
It's painful to see the Mother Church of all Christendom referred to as a "denomination." She is the Nomination and the One True Church from which all denominations are ultimately derived. Sorry, Jas Jis. I'm sure it was unintentional.
It's all cool. I was using 'denomination' to describe 'groups of people who ascribe to the same beliefs'. I was not considering that 'denomination' also infers that it is a sub set derivative of a greater set of beliefs.

the lumberjack
so the final verdict on unity? we can't get with you guys cuz we won't pray in front of statues, to Mary, or to any of the saints on the other side of eternity. and you guys can't get with us because we haven't been around longer than N'Sync... oh well... I'm still all about being your unlearned brother with questions and objections... till the Lord shed His glorious light on my poor dumb brain. God bless.
Good grief, LJ, are you obsessed with Catholics praying in front of statues? You repeat it in sooooooooooo many posts! We don't pray to the statues, you know! We pray before our food; but we aren't worshipping our meal. We kneel at our bedside, but we're not worshipping our beds. These things are locations. Nothing more. We pray in Church, we pray at home, we pray in the car, etc., etc., etc. If you're out of town on a business trip, and you bring a picture of your wife along, and you phone her and speak with her while you're looking at her picture...are you talking to her picture? Or are you talking to a real person? If you can't deal with the fact that we consider ourselves members of God's Holy Family: sons and daughters of God the Father, brothers and sisters in Christ, united not only with fellow Catholics here on earth, but those who walked with Christ 2,000 years ago through today; if you can't handle that He left us His Mother as He hung from the Cross, and that we still embrace and honor her as Our Mother to this day, then LJ, I just feel sorry for ya. Why do you bother calling some of us here "brother" or "sister"? How can you refer to us as brothers and sisters in the Lord, but reject His Mom? You think you're close to Jesus? Closer than His Mother? Closer than the Christians who were food for lions? Closer than the Apostles who were at the Last Supper? Please explain, then, why it would be better for us to ask you (or any other living human) to pray for us instead of the saints? Lord, please, shed a little light! Oremus! Pax Christi. <><
popestpiusx
I believe that with unity comes assuredness of truth. Christ did promise in the Bible that the gates of hell would not prevail against His Church (wherever you may or may not agree that Church is)--so, if we truly were to become unified, as one, it would impossible to be in error. Obviously, as a Catholic, I believe that the Church, in it's present state, is in that unified state--and our non-Catholic brethren have separated themselves with that perfect unity. With that said, if scenario #3 were to happen, and the Catholic Church decided to join the Baptists, the pope became Baptist, and every Christian in the world became Baptist, in order to Christ's promise to be fulfilled, that new Baptist Church would indeed be the Church containing the truth.
To paragraph 1: People could still err, they would just place themselves outside that unity by doing so. But you are correct, within that unified religion (which could only be the catholic Church) there would be no error. But is this not this situation now? Ah, but that leads us to paragraph 2. To para. 2: I agree 100%. There is no lack of unity in the Church (objectively speaking) becasue the Church is a perfect society and contains no error. Al disunity is that which is outside the Church. To para. 3: If the Baptist church contained all truth it would cease to be the baptist Church and begin to be the Catholic Church and therefore the Pope and all Catholics would only be at most, changing the name, but in reality all others would be becoming Catholic. Now if you mean that the Pope and all Catholics started to believe what the baptists belive, well, I think we have the apocolypse on our hands. I know that you are asking theoretically, and to that I have no comment.
