Vincent Vega
Also, we've been through this: Dodge City, despite its misleading name, is not a city in the way that people who live in houses from which one can see other houses think of cities. The city that my university is located in has five times as many people. For a comparison, Steubenville, OH - which I'd expect many people here to be familiar with - has only 5,000 fewer people than Dodge City. As people here can attest, Steubenville is hardly a booming metropolis.
Wichita is the Air Capital of the world. That is how it is known. It is the base for important businesses like Boeing and the like. That is where the planes are manufactured. Ergo, it is known as the Air Capital of the world. There are of course places where there is heavier air traffic. But that is not why Wichita is known as the Air Capital. I'm sorry we're not up to par by your ridiculous standards, but it is a city by population standards. There must be a specific population count for a town to be named a city, and Dodge City exceeds it. You don't need a minimum of a million people to become a city. I'm not in the best mood to deal with trolls and your post irritated me quite a bit, so I will take my leave.

E.g., Woodland Mills, TN, a city of 296 people. That city is smaller than my apartment complex. Granted, it's a pretty big apartment complex, but my point stands. In your state specifically, "all incorporated municipalities are cities." Every heard of West Jordan, Utah? Gresham, Oregon? Waterboro, Connecticut? Surprise, Arizona? Exactly. And those are all municipalities in the US which are at least four times as populous as Dodge City. There is nothing wrong with rurality, but don't delude yourself into thinking some dinky backwater town means anything to anybody outside of its borders. And don't think big towns or big apartment complexes mean anything to anybody outside of its borders. I don't care if you think our towns are small. I don't care if you think being in a big town means something, because I don't give a floopy. You live in a large population. Wonderful. Larger populations also means bigger percentage of car wrecks, traffic jams, and even murders. I'll enjoy knowing the people around me and knowing who to avoid and who to trust. If you like living in a big town, more power to you. Edited August 7, 2012 by FuturePriest387

I'm sorry if people in Wichita are biased. Who says I live in Dodge City? I live in a town of eight hundred people forty miles away from Dodge City. Never did I say I lived there. You should note that Dodge City has an unimaginably high amount of illegal immigrants, though, so this contributes greatly to the crime rate. The Dodge City Globe doesn't put its statistics on a website, I don't believe, so I did not bother looking it up. I wouldn't doubt my knowledge of a town that I have been to all my life due to family members (Note I said been to, not lived in, though I did live in a relative's house over there for a few months after the tornado), just as I will not doubt your knowledge of the airplane industry. You haven't given any statistics for who manufactures what the most, so why do you expect me to give statistics?
I'm not asking you how well you know the town, I'm asking you to back up a very quantifiable claim you've made. You don't have to believe that I know the aviation industry well, just as I don't have to believe that anyone but you and the mayor of Wichita know Wichita as the Intergalactic Aircraft Nervecenter of the Universe. Those are all subjective, unquantifiable things. But, then you went on and said that there are an unbelievable number of illegal immigrants in Dodge City, something that I find hard to believe given that 89.7% of the population is white and 5.5% is black, adding up to a total of 23996 of the 25206 people who live in Dodge City. It would be pretty easy to spot Mexicans (I presume they're Mexicans, as I don't suppose many Cubans or other Caribbean Latinos come a-floating on into the middle of Kansas), and even if every one of them were illegal, that's only about 1200 people, which is not an unimaginable amount at all. So, document the unimaginable amount of illegal immigrants with a source, and we can continue the discussion. Until then, I'll keep assuming that white people are perpetrating most of those crimes (which, I understand, is another unimaginable concept). Every color of skin is susceptible to committing crime. However, if you have a past of breaking laws, you have a tendency to continue doing so. I'm not saying every illegal immigrant is going to kill you and steal five dollars out of your pocket without a second thought, but this is simply the way things go. Virtue begets virtue, vice begets vice. I was rather irritated when I said "unimaginably", because I am sick of people laughing at the population of Kansas and looking at it as an inferior thing (I'm not saying that's what you did or think, that's just the impression I got), so "unimaginably" is the wrong word. However, there is a rather large population of illegal immigrants there. I'm not sure where you got your percentages, but they are not very accurate, according to what I have been told by actual people from Dodge City. My EMT/Fireman friend from Dodge City says a lot of the time when he is on call the immigrants can't even speak English.
