Chiquitunga
I'm looking into several communities which have the balance between OF and EF, so I'm definitely up for hearing your suggestions! So far, I have: -Franciscans of the Immaculate -Carmelite DCJ (central) -Marian Sisters of Santa Rosa -Cloistered Carmelite (Dallas) -SMMC If you are up for the challenge, I'm always excited to learn about other communties which celebrate both forms of the mass.
Other Carmels with both forms of the Mass offered regularly besides Cristo Rey and Dallas (both Spanish/1990) are Des Plaines (French/1990) and Alexandria, SD (Spanish/1990) <-- finally they updated their numbers on the IRL page!! Alexandria is also hoping to make a new foundation soon
AnneLine
I believe Cristo Rey is a 1991 -- just a very traditional one.

AnneLine
Not the slightest problem, Chitiungua! It is strange that there is SUCH a continuum along the 1991s. I think Cristo Rey just is a bunch of 'traditional' free spirits (like many in San Francisco!) They don't want to join an association.... they do want to keep the traditional customs...but they also aren't afraid of making minor adjustments that reinforce the actual intent of the original legislation. I know at one point they decided to NOT keep to the 'merino wool' habits- because they felt that it made more sense to find a durable yet less expensive fabric made closer to home... rather than importing merino wool from Spain at $50/yard (and that was about 40 years ago... I don't want to think what that particular wool would run now!). Teresa chose the Merino wool because it was the material used for clothing of the poor. So they found some strong, course fabric that worked perfectly well, and that they felt that was what St. Teresa would have used had she lived in San Francisco in 1974! Now THAT makes sense to me! I'm not sure if they are still doing that, but that was the intent back then.) Same with the sandals - they found some strong leather sandals that seemed to fit the bill... and were't noisy. The alpargatas tended to self-destruct and mildew in San Francisco's famously foggy climate.... it really isn't Sunny Spain there! Problems solved. Back to spending time with God! They felt it was a 'close enough' fit to how Holy Mother St. Teresa wanted it..... simple, quiet, practical, modest. Other communities will make other choices. I trust the Holy Spirit will be with them. Edited August 11, 2012 by AnneLine

Are you sure he didn't transfer to the Benedictine monks right next door? The Brothers' only new member came directly out of college. Then again, I haven't been since June. Has he joined since then?
