i think you must go to an Italian parish. Man, those ladies are scarry. I'm not even Catholic and they wanted me to be a priest.

It's more an old lady thing than an Italian-specific thing, I think.

Sometimes when I go to the store a chicken will roost itself under my rooftop of my mouth but then I'm called forth to the cashier but you don't have any money and so you walk away but that chicken is still there and he burrows down and down and down and down and down and down and down and down and down down and down and down and down and down and down and down and down and down down and down and down and down and down and down and down and down and down down and down and down and down and down and down and down and down and down down and down and down and down and down and down and down and down and downdown and down and down and down and down and down and down and down and down until he kind of grates against you belly but there ain't no pepto-bismal for that haha lol just kidding but seriously dude I know what you mean because people try to force me into the Priesthood too but it's kind of like the way that damned chicken keeps burrowing deeper and deeper down into my belly just forcing itself in and CONSTANTLY IMPOSING ITSELF ON MY PERSON in the absolutely MOST INCONVENIENT WAY POSSIBLE.

Yeah thats not really forced per say. But if an individual is manipulated/forced in any way then it is wrong. It has been known to happen.

OK, let's try this:

We're presumably trying to assert that the old ladies at the parish who tell every single young man they see to consider priesthood are somehow sinfully culpable for doing that. Let's examine closely:

For a particular act to be sinful it must be actually morally wrong, and must be undertaken knowingly and willingly. What is it about suggesting someone become a priest that would make it fall into the category of sinful, and therefore wrong?

Perhaps these old ladies are extremely good at convincing people to do things. They got a powerful stink-eye of doom or something, and their ability to compel other people to do their bidding is unmatched. Let's pretend they also know this to be the case, and fully intend to lure young men to their doom in a vocation they don't actually have. These young men must also have absolutely no will power of any kind, since otherwise this wouldn't work (and if it did, they'd have only themselves to blame) and must be un-called to priesthood, since doing this to a man who is called to priesthood wouldn't fit the "objectively wrong" portion of the criteria o' sin.

Besides being patently ridiculous, this might be a plausible scenario for accusing these old women of being sinful here. Maybe.

I can't conceive of any other way you might construct this such that the person saying "You should consider being a priest" would be in any way culpable for doing so. It'd be like going into a hardware store and telling the boy in the plumbing aisle that maybe he should consider being a plumber. Depending on the person it may come off as rude perhaps, but definitely not something you'd ever want to blame them for.

I mean, they are old, after all.

Final point:

If a young man is stupid enough to just blunder into priesthood because someone else suggested it, then he's not only really stupid, he's incredibly lucky. How else could he make it through 8 years of formation?

And weekly or biweekly meetings with a spiritual director trained in finding out whether or not the priesthood is right for this person and in helping them with their calling (even if it is to leave the seminary)

Although I'm sure there is a don't feed the trolls sign around here, I really need to up my post count.

That being said, infinitelord, you've been told before that they aren't going to delete your account. What is your problem with just not coming back? I honestly don't get it.

Wait, is this the guy who began the super long, die-hard thread on the True Presence of Christ in the Eucharist last year or the year before, who couldn't decide to leave the Church or not?

If by "forced into the priesthood", you mean "rejected for compulsive[mod] holy croutons, dude--budge[/mod]", then your experience is probably true.

Now I really want to know what he originally said...

I have a confession to make: I myself was forced into discerning the Priesthood. *Wails uncontrollably* It all started when my sister suggested it to me, and then as a dumb naive child I listened to her, a woman! And then, I had repeated Priests ask me about it, and everyone knows those guys are biased! I can't even continue with this story because it's so painful...

But really, this is stupid. I dare you to enter Seminary and not have them throw you out after figuring out you have no vocation. And trust me, they will figure it out. They are like trained sniper spotters. You have to go through a psychological evaluation and tons of other things to even get to Seminary, and you have to study hard for it if you truly want it once you enter Seminary, which you don't truly want it, so your entire scenario is dumb. Perhaps there were people forced into the Priesthood in the past, but things are different now. It is much harder these days.

So I'm not the only one who saw the llama put two pillows on its back and try to pass itself off as a bactrian camel?

PM is like an addiction, it's hard to leave. Look at the people who have left over a dozen times publicly to keep returning.
