theculturewarrior
I apologize if this is old hat, but I would appreciate sincere and charitable answers from everyone. 1. Can Catholics be saved, and remain Catholic? 2. Can Catholics be saved, and believe everything the Catholic Church teaches?
mulls
i don't know, i'm not the one who dishes out salvation, but if i were to guess i would say YES to both questions.

theculturewarrior
As Catholics, we worship Jesus in the Eucharist. Why then do Protestant groups proselytize Catholics? (I ask this in charity). Edited May 18, 2004 by theculturewarrior
mulls
a lot of groups worship Jesus, or claim to. Jesus never said worship me and be saved, he preached a message and said 'follow me.' protestants are afraid that catholic theology is totally wrong, and that catholics don't know truly know the message of the gospel, and are trusting their church and what their church says to get them into heaven, instead of Christ alone. dUSt
protestants are afraid that catholic theology is totally wrong, and that catholics don't know truly know the message of the gospel, and are trusting their church and what their church says to get them into heaven, instead of Christ alone.
And Catholics are afraid that Protestants are following their own path to Christ (which too often leads to distorting the Bible, blindly following pastors, and listening to the "self" as opposed to Christ), instead of submitting to the authority of Christ's Church. the lumberjack
well CW, I would say a definite YES to the first ? I've met plenty of Catholics who are saved and still go to mass and remain in the Catholic Church...though they don't hold to what they have found for themselves to be extrabiblical teachings of the Catholic Church. and as for the second one...hmmm...it depends on what you mean by what the Catholic Church "teaches"... are we talking confirmed doctrine...or any of the other dogma/teachings/decrees? because as of yet, I have yet to get a concise, clear list of what confirmed Catholic Church doctrine is, and what is just dogma/whatever else is... so, it would be a shaky maybe on the 2nd ?... God bless.
phatcatholic
why do you need a list? we know what we believe and we don't need a list....
Mickey's_Girl
I don't know about lumberjack, but I think there are lots of people on this board who don't know exactly what the Church teaches and it might be helpful. Of course, this part of the argument might have undercurrents and personal issues that I don't understand, in which case I bow out. MG
