missionseeker
If NHS is so great, why are American hospitals donating incubators to LONDON hospitals. beatitude
It seems as if this is a promotional advert for the company that makes the incubators. It is the norm for companies specialising in medical technology to make donations of their products to selected hospitals around the world - not just to underequipped field hospitals in very poor countries, but to hospitals with money that are likely to place an order for more products. This is why Great Ormond Street Hospital in London attracts a lot of donations, despite being well-funded and world-class. Homerton Hospital has a specialist unit for premature babies, taking referrals from all over London, so they'd be a good place to send samples to. Papist
It is not a hospital(s). It is GE's healthcare division. I'm wondering if they donate to American hospitals. But I don't think London is unique. London was picked probably b/c of the Olympics.

Archaeology cat
It's someone within the NHS who pioneered the BASICs trolley. Just saying. http://www.lw.nhs.uk/Library/news_centre/Life_Saving_Trolley_Basics_Case_Study.pdf But beatitude is right. It makes sense for companies creating new things to donate them to large, well-known hospitals in order to get their products out there.

cmotherofpirl
I have seen lots of articles about rationing in the NHS, so it wouldn't surprise me that they needed them.
Maggyie
Up here where I live the Cleveland Clinic attracts a lot of donations, but that certainly doesn't mean they are hurting for funds or that they aren't a grand hospital! But rather because people like being able to say in their literature "our equipment is used at the Cleveland Clinic."

Well the river has been cleaned up and of course that's good. But nowadays we name local microbrews, music festivals. and software companies after the river catching fire. Adrestia
Compare cost of health care per patient and outcome per patient, that's why the NHS is so great.
