brianthephysicist
I live in Long Island and I could volunteer my place, except that I'm busy that particular weekend. Let me know if you guys change the dates.

Amppax
I recall that last time this was discussed, the powers that be said the next phatmass meet up would be south of the Mason-Dixon line. Last I checked, New York was North of said line.

brianthephysicist
For people complaining that nobody's seriously looking at a meetup in their region: I never actually saw the founding thread for the previous meetup, but I was under the assumption that a bunch of people were posting about wanting a meetup and someone (in this case MIKolbe) picked a date and welcomed any and all phatmassers to his house. Sure, he picked it way in advance so that people would have the necessary time to get off work or whatever else they needed to do, but basically, he picked it said "alright, I'm opening my house, who's interested?" That was my basic understanding of how it ended up in Pittsburgh, I could easily be wrong, but that's what I thought happened. The idea of one being held next summer in South Carolina was basically Papist saying "sure guys, the next one can be at my place" (and now with pregnancy, that may not be as viable an option anymore, but I'll leave him to comment on that one). I probably didn't hear all of the suggested locations, but the ones that I did hear (with the exception of SC by Papist) were all generalized in the sense of let's have one in region ______ with general agreement from a few people, but nothing ever came from it because nobody volunteered to open their home. Instead of saying "I think we should have a meetup near ______", and then complaining when it doesn't get anywhere, let's think about whether or not we can be the person willing to go out on a limb and open their home. In regards to this particular thread, I'll pretty much repeat what I said before. I live in Long Island and I could volunteer my place, except that I'm busy that particular weekend. I would prefer not to do it during the semester, but that might be the best time for it, who knows? I like the idea of winter break or of early next summer (roughly the time frame of the last meetup), but I'm fairly flexible. Talk to me. Also, if you end up making this particular meetup (or any other one being planned, for that matter) work without me, that's fine, I'm just trying to help. I won't be offended or feel slighted in any way and you don't have to fear the drama llama
cmaD2006
Actually it can be a simple as "are you in the area?" "Do those nearby want a meetup?" I can't believe that there aren't more people around NYC... there's gotta be!

Everyone from the south iscomplaining that a New Hampshire girl doesnt plan a meetup in their state, and 2. It seems like only a few of us can go. BrianTP, maybe u could host one in the winter!
