This was inspired by an actual mantilla user I observed during Mass today. I have never actually observed a woman wearing one of these before, and it was fascinating. Also, this time around I chose to make and narrate a video as I drew the comic, so you can watch it here.
Be warned that I mispronounce “mantilla” several times. Oh well…

It's a bit disconcerting to me that so many people have said that FP. Most of them men. Very odd. Thanks for the compliment though. :)

You should be a Priest. We need Priests that are good speakers. You have a good speaking voice, even if it is soothing and will aid people in falling asleep on Sunday morning.

And I don't think you mispronounce mantilla. I pronounce it the same way because that's how it should be pronounced.

I just looked it up on the internet, and you pronounced it right. Though through my research I found out that it is really popular in Spain. They pronounce the double-l differently than us Americans.

Um - it is pronounced like "tortilla". The mantilla is a Spanish item. They weren't popular here until one of the Kennedys wore one. But they're still Spanish.

Women who are aware of this fact, I think, will wear scarves or something else instead, because the idea of the "traditional" mantilla seems tacky to them.

Many English-speakers pronounce it man-till-a, though I say it so it rhymes with tortilla. If I wear my mantilla, I end up tying it behind my head so my kids can't pull it off as easily, for precisely some of the things shown in the cartoon.
