EDIT: this is the poster emmaberry on my topic posting account-sorry, forgot to switch over.

I wanted to ask all you fall entrants whether you think it would be a good idea to take organ lessons before entering the convent. Also, I need new glasses. Mine now are a thin pink frame, and I am thinking the nuns might not appreciate the pink...I could be wrong! Does anyone have suggestions for what type of glasses to buy? I am thinking just black or brown frame, but I really do like the pink. Thanks! (sorry if this is highjacking.)

Such a beautiful vocation... Amazing how God calls women to the cloister.

It is-I looked it up and that is Sr. Marie Angelique's community, which just seems wonderful. Virginia is beautiful, also. She is so blessed. I will be praying for all these August entrants!

This comes courtesy of the Dominincan Brothers of St Joseph, they posted a few pictures from the reception after first vows of the Nashville Dominicans.

Way to use the obscure alien emoticon, krissylou! The whole 'nuns and aliens' bit has caught some attention.
See here:

Honestly, some of those nuns have been in the monastery for so long that they might not even be aware of the alien hype! It's like what Mother Mary Francis said in ARTBM about older nuns discussing what 'rock and roll' meant. They eventually decided it had to do with the movement of a ship! rotfl

But those are Carmelite habits and the Roswell nuns are Poor Clares!

Sloppy, sloppy nuns-and-aliens research. ;)

Ok I have another lurker I might add to this list. I just need to get her permission and dates and such first!

(Also bumping this since DtA leaves in 5 days!)

I contacted the psychologist by email today and just asked him to please notify me when he is ready to send off the final report so I can let the Provincial Superior know when to expect it. I need to call her anyway because I'm trying to keep in touch on a regular basis. :)

Backing up to the question about taking organ lessons - yes, PLEASE do, for your own sake and that of your future community! And don't get discouraged if progress seems slower than cold molasses. Just keep practicing and facility will come! Since the guitar became popular a generation ago, organists are hard to find. It's a great service, and if singing is praying twice just add a keyboard and you'll have three times.

While it is not necessary to take organ lessons before entrance, it is highly recommended! So many communities use organs in their liturgy and need organ players. My friend, Sr. Mary Elizabeth, has been receiving organ lessons since she started her novitiate in the Carmelite Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus. She already knew how to play piano, so I imagine that's very helpful. :)
