I've looked into it, and it has some merits for sure. Don't know if I could manage to be disciplined enough to keep at it, though. Also, even though the diet has fresh fruit and veg, which some other high protein diets exclude (Atkins, for example), I'd be concerned about the chances of issues with keeping stable blood sugars and of stress on the kidneys, which high protein diets can cause problems with. Philosophically it's an interesting premise. I'd have to do much more in-depth reading on it to have a fully formed opinion on it though.

Yeah. It's huge in the crossfit community and I know a guy who is really into it. I'm working toward being Paleoish.

I'm really still learning about it. It can get really expensive. I mean you have people who will claim that it's only Paleo if you eat free-range, grass fed meat. But I think done in moderation it can be good for a diet. Here's one thing. It does often involve a fair deal of fat (oh my lord, I actually originally spelled 'phat'). I mean most of the people I know who do it do crossfit plus other stuff (like marathons) so I don't know how the diet would work if you are not extremely athletic.

I don't see any problem with someone eating a grain-free (i.e. paleo/primal) diet if they find that works for them. I just don't agree with the premise of the primal/paleo philosophy that "we haven't evolved to eat grains" or that our bodies weren't meant to. I do think God created grains for us to eat and that He intended for us to eat them. (Jesus called himself "The Bread of Life." ) But it's certainly not required. :) There might be better, more traditional ways to prepare them that make them easier to digest/assimilate nutrients, but I just can't get behind that particular argument for the diet.

And maybe that's not the question you were really asking, but I feel its relevant on a Catholic forum.

This. Absolutely. It makes sense for people doing Crossfit aggressively because of the type of training they're doing. Athletes of that variety DO need more protein.

You have to catch it yourself. And eat it raw.
