brianthephysicist
Of course one is going to be more concerned with his own--and his co-religionists'--freedom to practice the religion he believes to be true than one is with a religion he has no special ties to and that he considers false. Personally, I only support the free exercise of religion espoused by the First Amendment because it ensures the freedom of the Church. If the Church's freedom could be secured without a strong freedom of religion as seen in the United States, I'd be inclined to push for government restrictions of non-Catholic religious practice.
Personally, I believe that true freedom of religion is honestly a good thing for America and for the world. I believe that if someone sits down and truly goes through all of the religions out there, looking at the good, the bad, and the ugly, their gaze will come to rest on the Catholic Church. Telling someone "NO! You can't investigate the truth/falsehood of _________, you must blindly trust me that it is false!" only pushes people away and implies that we have something to hide. We have nothing to fear. If the Catholic Church is the true Church established by Christ (which I believe), then the truth of that will shine through of its own accord through evangelization and the lives of the faithful. Conversion (and reversion) is a process. It does not need to be coerced. God will make sure that someone genuinely seeking truth will find Him. Lil Red
“Have you ever read the Quran? I suggest you do so, because anyone that is a Muslim is a threat to this country, and that’s a fact,†Harris told the Times. “There is no such thing as a moderate Muslim. If they are Muslim they have to follow the Quran. That’s their religion and that’s their doctrine.â€
same justifications were used against anyone of Japanese & German descent in WWI & WWII. same justifications used against Catholics in this country. ri-frackkin-diculous. Anomaly
Typical bull poo flooping hysteria by demonizing sterotypes who are demonizing stereotypes. Wes Harris is prez of the "Original North Pheonix Tea Party", one of 60 local "Tea Parties" in Arizona (and one of 4 listed for Pheonix). It seems any butt knuckle can start up their own 'Tea Party' and spew idiocy. Of course, it's obviously easy for butt knuckles with opposing views to spin the sterotype and paint all "Tea Party" claimants as moronic butt knuckles. What's really sad is how often people fall for either stereotype while congratulating themselves on their own enlightened perspective.
Ice_nine
The internet keeps reminding me how stupid everyone is. Dumb humans. I think a short respite from the virtual world is in order.
