Even dumb superheroes are superheroes. It's not really a philosophical statement, just a title given to a subset of sentient beings with powers above normal. It's not exacting, considering Norse gods are also considered superheroes.

Some more relevant facts, presented by Thomas Sowell:
Do countries with strong gun-control laws have lower murder rates? Only if you cherry-pick the data.

Britain is a country with stronger gun-control laws and lower murder rates than the United States. But Mexico, Russia, and Brazil are also countries with stronger gun-control laws than the United States — and their murder rates are much higher than ours. Israel and Switzerland have even higher rates of gun ownership than the United States, and much lower murder rates than ours.

Even the British example does not stand up very well under scrutiny. The murder rate in New York has been several times that in London for more than two centuries — and, for most of that time, neither place had strong gun-control laws. New York had strong gun-control laws years before London did, but New York still had several times the murder rate of London.

It was in the later decades of the 20th century that the British government clamped down with severe gun-control laws, disarming virtually the entire law-abiding citizenry. Gun crimes, including murder, rose as the public was disarmed.

Meanwhile, murder rates in the United States declined during the same years that murder rates in Britain were rising, which were also years when Americans were buying millions more guns per year.

He will give conservative statism/minarchism a miss and go right into philosophical anarchism.

Here's some facts, draw your own conclusions.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_firearm-related_death_rate
Switzerland is 19th on this list of 66 countries with regards to gun related deaths, although for them a high percentage of those deaths are suicides.
Their total death by guns rate per 100,000 population is 2.6 times greater than my country
Their murder by guns rate is 3.4 times higher
Their suicide by guns rate is 2.6 times higher
Their accidental death by gun rate is 1.4 times higher

Are these guys the poster child of unregulated gun access?

However, what's relevant, the actual murder rates, are lower in Switzerland than in the U.S., Britain, or Australia (if I recall correctly, your country.) The idea that gun control itself means less murder and violence is proved a sham.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate

But I suppose getting beaten or stabbed to death is ever so much better than getting shot.

And, if I recall, I thought you had no problem with people committing suicide. Without guns, the suicidal simply find other ways to do themselves in.

Sorry Stevil, it would have been better if you'd just bowed out gracefully on this one.

I a a aaa gggrrreee with Socrates. Blast that was hard!!
We have strict gun laws in Australia. But Personally I'd rather be shot than be stabbed numerous times with a box cutter or be king hit from behind and have my head stomped.

So if you had your choice of attacker, you would prefer they come at you with a gun rather than a box cutter?
Myself, I struggle to outrun bullets, but I'd give myself a good chance of out running a person with a box cutter. Also, my skull, although impervious to box cutter blades, isn't bullet resistant unfortunately.
