SWEET! I can't wait to try! I have very curly hair as well, but I've never heard of the old t-shirt trick - definitely gonna have to try it cause I can see it preventing a lot of the frizz I get from towel drying.

just be aware, there is a curve to adjusting.

mine wasn't as big because i haven't been shampooing my hair for awhile before i started the baking soda/vinegar, but your hair is used to being over-washed, so it will keep producing extra oil for awhile while it re-adjusts.

Okay, I'll not leave the house for a week, maybe it will adjust in that time. :hehe: I actually only shampoo my hair every few days, as odd as that might sound, so maybe it won't take so long?

Doesn't sound that odd. I don't shampoo my hair everyday. Lately it has been every other day. Letting my natural oils stay in my hair for a day (or two) has really helped.

Yeah I found the same thing to be true for my hair. The only problem with that is I am then limited in my options for hair styles, so it usually ends up in a bun of some sort, which is kind of boring.

Maybe this will also be solved with the new "shampoo!" That would be incredible. I like to wear my hair down.

especially if I were going to be wearing a mantilla.

my hair seems flatter, in a way, but the curls are more defined, with a lot less work.

I just started the baking soda/vinegar thing yesterday, and had no idea it was so popular here!

I do 1 heaping tbs of baking soda in a tall glass of hot water, dump that over my head in the shower and let it sit for a bit whilst I wash and shave and whatnot. Then I massage my scalp and rinse that well. Took me about two weeks for my hair to adjust and my oils to even out, and my itchy, flaky scalp is no more. :) I use a boar bristle brush to distribute the rest of the oils between washings. Oh, and sometimes your hair gets a little bit darker, because all the oils are getting soaked up.

But mantillas...yeah...I bet they stay on better when your hair is healthy. :)

I tried the vinegar/baking soda and I like it a lot!! I thought my hair would be oily by the end of today, but it isn't! I also did the old t-shirt trick, which worked well. My hair dried a lot faster than it usually does, which probably means that either the moisture is being locked in by the baking soda, or that my hair is now waterproof lol. I didn't get to leave my hair down because it was way too hot, but once it razzle dazzles down I can't wait to see what this does for my curls.

For me I have to use conditioner because my hair is REALLY, REALLY, REALLY dry, coarse, thick, and curly. How do you keep your curls moisturized besides the natural oils??
I have to shampoo a lot though because I am a swimmer. It's kinda ironic because I have the WORST hair type for frequent chlorine attacks. But I take care of it by putting in a special product before I swim so that my hair doesn't absorb too much chlorine water.

I was also wondering about hair products... do you have alternatives for styling products?

Erm... maybe we should make or find a thread about hair so we don't continue hijacking the mantilla thread?

ummm, i dunno. i'm pretty new at this. but maybe franny or ice can give their two cents.

if just argan oil isn't working, i will use a little mixed chicks (or mixed silk is the knock-off brand) leave-in conditioner.
