missionseeker
Your hair is really cool! The older I get, it seems the lighter my hair is. It's still a reasonably dark brown, but it used to be almost black. You can see lighter brown on the edges of my hair especially in bright outside places. yeah it's funny how hair changes. my dad started as a blonde kid then turned brunette. I have my whole life been willing my hair to turn red. I used to sit near windows where the sun was and look at all the pretty red tints and be sad that that wasn't the normal overwhelming color. I felt like Anne Shirley only opposite. So when I moved to florida and my hair turned red, I was like IT WORKED!!!! And I remember the first time someone said "I know a lot of girls named Cat, but none of em are redheads" I think I did a victory dance. And every time after that a fist pump. lol. The best years of my life were when my hair was red. :|
IcePrincessKRS
My hair gets a lot of blonde highlights when I'm out in the sun a lot. Winter hits and the ends of my hair are considerably lighter than the roots. It's always been that way, even when I lived in the frozen north (NY). My kids' hair always gets lighter in the sun, too. It's a pretty common occurrence.

CrossCuT
:idontknow: I don't need to be told how soap works. I flooping make it. soap =/= surfactants And making soap isnt the same as making a product. :bounce:

Lil Red
If you don't like us going natural so much, why are you still in this thread? Your snottiness is not appreciated. Anyway...... Back to hair tips, I tried plopping again today. Still not sure if it is for me. I like how my curls look but it doesn't seem as if they have as much volume. I like how my curls look but it doesn't seem as if they have as much volume.Plopping depends on the day for me so far. I want to add it to my "normal" routine just because I prefer tighter, slicker, bouncier curls over a bunch of volume. I think part of that, though, is that I'm already pretty used to my hair falling pretty "flat" because it's so long. I don't know what I'd do if I had really thick, voluminous hair at this length! :hehe:

I have curly hair but not super curly hair. My older sister has hair and curly as Red though and she has to use extra product to get it to be nice

I have curly hair but not super curly hair. My older sister has hair and curly as Red though and she has to use extra product to get it to be niceMay I ask what stage of life you're in? "Weird things"? These things aren't weird, they're every day products used for cleaning -- or, in the case of ACV, just about everything, including gut health. You called the things we do to clean and manage our hair, gross. And yeah, we all have curly hair so we all talk about what works or helps or enhances our curls, but plenty of people who have other hair textures also use baking soda and ACV. Some people don't use anything but hot water. (I guess this wouldn't be the right time to say I've considered experimenting with that.)It's rude to say, "That's gross," especially when people have asked you to be more polite about a conversation they didn't exactly invite you into. Yes, it's a public phorum and anyone can comment, but if you've nothing constructive, kind or at least NEUTRAL to say, why say anything at all? Why walk into a perfectly reasonable, agreeable, enjoyable conversation and start calling things gross and lamenting a disregard for scientists?I've said it once already in this thread and I'll say it again, no one said scientists got it wrong. Clearly their products work to remove dirt; we happen to think they work a little TOO well to do that. And we don't want to use them. And guess what: we don't have to. And we aren't gross for not using them.Even MissScripture who uses shampoo and conditioner herself has come and said, "here's this and that and this other thing and it's not weird and I get it even though I don't do it." And what do you do? You come back in and say, "I get it: you have difficult hair. But you're not cleaning it and that's gross."WE ARE CLEANING IT. Want me to send you some hair samples when I shave it all off later this year? You can feel for yourself how clean it is. You think baking soda doesn't clean? What kind of scientist believes THAT? You think the acid in ACV isn't stripping away the day-to-day dirt and oils on our locks? What kind of scientist believes THAT?Detergents came on the market in the 1900s. What did people do before that?Detergents and soap accomplish nothing without friction, which we very much rely on with the baking soda mixture. Oddly, the shampoo you want so badly for people to use (so as not to be gross) also requires mechanical energy.Since you're so hell bent on screaming SCIENCE! SCIENCE! LISTEN TO SCIENCE!, here's some science:We use baking soda (NaHCO3) to "shampoo" our hair, the same stuff lots of people use to soak up other oily -- sometimes smelly -- situations. I'm sure you knew that and know how it's made and whence it comes, etc. I'm sure you also know that it's extremely pure and has been listed in the United States Pharmacopeia since 1848. (Let's all soak that in: 1848.) Some of us are really conscious about the things we're putting on or near our bodies; call us crazy. I'm sure you also know that this and other alkalis are often added to detergents. So yeah, we've ditched some of your sufactants -- and we're okay with that.Yes, your surfactants will remove more oil. BUT I DON'T WANT TO REMOVE MORE OIL. That's the point. I trust my body (made by an insanely smart God) to do a really great job with oil production/regulation, pH balance and moisture all on its own. I do all I can to aid it in those processes and to avoid interrupting the natural cycles. Now that I go to the gym 4-5 times per week, I find myself "shampooing" more often (because I feel gross), but I maintain the same routine:hot waterbaking sodaa good scruba good rinsea good scrubcool wateracv rinseone last good long rinseIt works for us. And it isn't gross, despite your immature response to it. And if you want to go on thinking it's gross, that's amesome, but you don't need to say it here. Have some respect: vent to a friend, tell your dog, keep it to yourself. Do whatever, but don't say it here. It's rude.

incarnatewordsister
I'm going to try the baking soda and vinegar stuff. I have thick curly hair, which thank God, stays under the veil, but because of the black veil, and the Texas hot sun, it suffers. I go between really greasy hair and then very dry spells. Does the baking soda/vinegar work to remove dandruff? That's always been a problem I have since I got a black veil.
