Are you an alcoholic?
[/quote]

No, but I'm related to and/or know a great many, both active and dried out.

AA's 21st question is: Are you related to Luigi?

This is a personal annoyance of mine, and I know: I should just get over it. But it really irks me when people speak for such a large demographic as if they deal with whatever it is -- or as if they are the whole of the group. Some PEOPLE may think those things (not all of them necessarily alcoholic), but not ALL alcoholics think that. I dare say not even MOST alcoholics think that.

With such sensitive issues, I prefer to stick to my own experience and really appreciate when others do the same.

Sorry if that came across as harsh. I wasn't exactly sure how to convey what I meant without saying exactly what I said. It's just such a sensitive issue and I see all kinds of opinions splayed about this phorum as though they are fact. You know? I'm not saying you're the first or worst offender -- or even that that's what just happened -- but I could see that getting way out of control here and I would really hate to see that happen again.

To the OP: I don't think it's weird at all. In fact, I think it could be a really great thing.

Brother Adam

Didn't we go through a huge thing about stereotypes and generalizations a couple of years ago and everyone got mad at each other?

One local priest is a recovering alcoholic and the best confessor I have ever met.

I really don't see what could be problematic about a priest who didn't drink. There are a variety of reasons not to drink. Maybe the priest has some sort of medication that doesn't mix with alcohol or some health problem that doesn't mix with alcohol, or maybe he just doesn't like the taste of alcohol. If he cares to share a reason, that's his choice. I'm sure that some people might jump to conclusions as to why the priest didn't want to drink, but they would probably also jump to conclusions if he DID have a drink. And there's no way anyone can keep some people from jumping to conclusions.

A good wine doesn't dull the taste of a meal but accentuates it. A good glass of merlot with a steak or prime rib will cleanse your pallete between bites so you can fully experience the flavor of the steak.

for some it does for some it doesn't. As long as your not a drunkard.

St john the baptist never had a drop. So what of him? If the person is truely christian and knows the story of st john the baptist than hopefully the person/s would understand some are called not to drink a drop.
