Pontifex
Hey Pham, So I know I do not post as much as I should but the phamily is always in my prayers at mass and otherwise. I've been in the trenches of internet debate, evangelization, etc. That coupled with my parish duties, I stay pretty busy. I must say that in recent months it has been my observation that opposition to the Church and its teachings has been intense from within and from the outside. Does anyone else see this or is it because I have found myself on a different albeit bigger platform? Blessings In Christ, Fr. Burns aka Fr. FutureCarmeliteClaire
I've thought the same thing, it's not just you. God Bless, Claire
CatherineM
I have been expecting a time of increasing persecution. We opened ourselves up to it by the abuse scandal, poor catechisis, and silence.
Groo the Wanderer
I third that. Seems like the vitriol is more present, more public, and more often.
cmotherofpirl
It has gone from disagreement to hate to persecution, much of it our own fault, and much from the worm on the inside. The internet with its anonymous posting ability has truly unleashed vile evil forces festering in many hearts. The evil one is quite pleased. MissyP89
Too, it's an election year. That always tends to make things worse. We miss you, Father. Keep praying for us ... we are praying for you.

PhuturePriest
This is only to be expected. After years of abuse, poor catechesis and terrible theologies running rampant, there is nothing else that can happen except this. It's up to us and our leaders to unite the flock once again and lay down the law, otherwise we're toast in terms of being taken seriously anymore (Not that we're taken too seriously anyway. It will just get worse). My spiritual director is a wonderful and smart Priest, and he thinks things are going to go back to the way they were in the first century. He says the Church will get persecuted, become small, and we will not have a real weight in terms of politics anymore. However, we will have a very strong and devout Church, and overtime he thinks we will rebuild our numbers.

It is interestig that a country that is overwhelmingly composed of Christians in evey single branch of government, the police, the armed forces, and demographically would persecute Christians. Its almost like the idea that Christians are beig persecuted in America is utterly rediculious and insulting to Christians in places in the world where Christians really are persecuted. You know, places that aren't demographically Christian and where Christians don't dominat the government, armed forces, and police. Sometimes it seems like some Christians in America confuse persecution with not getting special treatment.

MithLuin
Technically, the internet is not 'America', though I certainly appreciate the distinction you are making, Hassan. Anti-Catholic sentiment will eventually boil over into actual persecution, but they're not synonymous. The Church in China is persecuted. Being a Catholic in Egypt or Pakistan certainly has its bad days. I'm American, but have been living in a country where Catholics make up about ~ 1% of the population. Despite this, there's not much in the form of formal persecution there (the neighbors don't have any problem with Catholics, as far as I can see). That being said, the government tends to treat the Church like just another NGO, which does lead to some unfair situations. This thread was more about public opinion than actual persecution, though. BigJon16
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward will be great in heaven. Thus they persecuted the prophets who were before you. Matthew 5:11,

You persecute one Christian you persecute us all.
