emmaberry
Hello! A family friend is contemplating divorce. She has 4 young children, one of which has severe autism. I am looking for a book on redemptive suffering for her that does not overkill on Catholic beliefs (Mary, praying to saints, etc) since she is Protestant. She has never been taught about redemptive suffering, and genuinely believes that if she is not happy in her marriage, than God is okay with her being divorced if that is what it takes to make her happy. Thanks for your prayers and book suggestions!
ACS67
Try John Paul II Apostolic Letter called Salvifici Doloris. Here is the PDF version. ImageTrinity
It isn't exactly about redemptive suffering, but I recommend Interior Freedom by Fr. Jacques Phillipe to ANYone going through a rough patch. It is full of gentle, but powerful encouragement.
Tab'le De'Bah-Rye
Is that what protestants believe, that if your happy than everything is ok?
PadrePioOfPietrelcino
depends on the Protestant, but in my experiene redemtive suffering as we understand it as Catholics is a foriegn concept on the whole.
BarbTherese
I am rather sure that I have a misunderstanding of what you may mean, PP Apostolic Letter - "Salvifici Doloris" - Pope John Paul II http://www.vatican.v...doloris_en.html
With these and similar words the witnesses of the New Covenant speak of the greatness of the Redemption, accomplished through the suffering of Christ. The Redeemer suffered in place of man and for man. Every man has his own share in the Redemption. Each one is also called to share in that suffering through which the Redemption was accomplished. He is called to share in that suffering through which all human suffering has also been redeemed. In bringing about the Redemption through suffering, Christ has also raised human suffering to the level of the Redemption. Thus each man, in his suffering, can also become a sharer in the redemptive suffering of Christ.
Edited July 17, 2012 by BarbaraTherese
