ThePenciledOne
TPO, I beleive I was the only one assuming how it was back in St Johns day, I base that assumption on teh fact He baptized Jesus and was a very holy man. He also recognized a human, the human was a sinner and he showed his love for this human sinner by calling him out on his sin and demanding he repented. What more love of a man could another show than to love his very being, his soul, that gift from God that sets him above the animals and truly makes him almost god-like, at least in the sense of being created in God's image with a soul, but to love him enough as a human and a sinner to try to help him on his way to salvation instead of just saying, I love him but I hate the sin he is engaging in. If I see my child breaking the law, of God or man, and just allow it by not rebuking him am I showing love, or am I pretending to love him by coddling him in his error? As to your last statement, that sounds very protestant to me, you know the whole, Jesus died for me so I am already saved, I do not need to confess or work toward my salvation all I have to do is be reborn. Would God expect us to just cast a blind eye to the sin of another, Jesus rebuked sinners and commanded them to sin no more, he also told his disciples when those of a town would not accept their teaching to shake the dirt of their sandals as they left that town. Do you feel his command to go forth and forgive men their sins meant they were then open to return to their sinful life with no consequences. that would be a tad more wishy-washy than I think the Son of Man could accept. ed
Most persons living in sin are not going to care about God's Love, nor are they going to understand why you are pointing out the deficiencies in their behavior. This would mean that in order to evangelize we have to choose a more subtle tactic. As to my last statement, I think you're reading a bit much into it, but whatever. Obviously, we have different ways of going about loving people and evangelizing, as long as it's doing God's Will, it doesn't matter to me. If my philosophy seems wishy-washy or Protestant then I'm sorry, but I am only doing what I have learned in my walk with Christ and growth in the spiritual life. And most of it is centered around the personhood of each individual, as it would have helped me years ago, because a lot of people are hurting and wounded and want help and an ear to listen to them. Clear, bold, direct, straight and to the point tactics also are effective, if not more so. Sure using such tactics can increase hostility against the evangelist, even lead to his martyrdom, but that too can be a tool to evangelize and help bring sinners to repentance. Subtle tactics can work but eventually there will be a need to be clear, bold and direct. Both have a place in the conversion of souls to Mother Church. Skinzo
The Gates of Microsoft will not prevail: "L’Osservatore Romano, the Holy See’s official daily newspaper, has taken up arms against Bill Gates and Nestlé. The Pope’s newspaper has launched a tough and clear attack against the two on the front page of this afternoon’s issue: an editorial by Giulia Galeotti on “birth control and disinformation†entitled “The risks of philanthropyâ€, defines Bill Gates’ wife as being “slightly off the mark and confused†as well as “misinformedâ€. Melinda Gates announced to the CNN that over the next eight months she wants to spend 450 million Euros on research into on research into new birth control methods, improved information on contraception and providing access in the planet’s poorest countries, primarily Africa, to such services and instruments. Speaking to the CNN, Mrs. Gates confided the difficulty she faced as a believer, aware that her initiative challenges the leaders of the Catholic Church." Winchester
The Kennedy's, Pelosi, Sebelius... Our Bishops don't seem to have the guts to excommunicate, anymore. Edited July 30, 2012 by Winchester
PhuturePriest
Preaching error should be dealt with. She should be told the truth. When someone of authority in the Church tells her the truth and she still is resistant and doesn't care, then the excommunication process may begin. But she unfortunately is a product of 95% of the Catholic population or more. We can't judge her off terrible catechesis and inadequate Bishops (http://www.knightsof...-contraception/ ). We are feeling the fruit of the labor that many Bishops sowed throughout the years. Had it not been for the terrible response time, the easy-going attitude about teaching it, or even at times total rejection of the Pope's infallibility on this by the Bishops, this wouldn't be a problem. Heresy running rampant is all that can be expected with such atrocities. Now it is our job to clean up the mess, and if we do not do so than it will be up to the next generation to clean up an even bigger mess. Much of the weight is on the shoulders of the Bishops, clergy and religious, and we should definitely pray for them that they preach the truth fearlessly and that they finally put forth their power of authority given to them by our Lord (Acts 20:28 "Take heed to yourselves, and to the whole flock, wherein the Holy Ghost hath placed you bishops, to rule the Church of God..." The word "rule" is very powerful under this context. The Bishops need to start exercising such power). Our consolation is Christ's promise that the gates of Hell would never prevail against the Holy Mother Church. Am I the only one who read that in Michael Voris' voice? I'm so proud of myself... Edited July 30, 2012 by FuturePriest387
