Always a terrific day when someone professes perpetual/solemn vows. So beautiful! I love her name.

This is the part that caused me tears of joy and expectation. I hope I get to experience this in my own life:

[quote]
At the end of the Mass, Sister Elizabeth Marie prostrated herself on the floor while the other nuns sang the early Christian hymn of praise “Te Deum.” She laid on a funeral pall and the nuns tossed rose petals over her.

“It’s a sign of her complete giving to God, of her complete surrender,” explained Sister Mary of Jesus after the Mass. “She’s died to the world.”

While prostrated, sisters are to pray to God for a greater union with him. Pinned to the habit near their heart is a list of intentions, and the nun’s vows are written on a scroll and placed on the corporal during consecration.

Chiquitunga: Thank you for posting links to her old posts. I loved her PM name: "MtCarmelorBust" lol! I am pretty new to PM, and I am so bad at finding older posts of those who have entered. I really appreciate it! Sister Elizabeth Marie is SO beautiful, and I really love the article.

I'd give the OP props but I am all out..

I LOVE the part Mater quoted where the nun has a list of intentions close to her heart while she prostrates.... I want to send this to some of my friends and family who think the Carmelite/contemplative vocation is 'useless.' There is no way God does not pay special attention to the intentions of someone prostrate, sacrificing their whole life directly for Him.

I thought the funeral pall was laid over one, not that the Professed lies on it?

Anyways........we had a tradition in my community where we pinned intentions to the pall (on the inside) on tiny scroutonss of paper. Only we could hear the rustling. My NM said it was the rustle of the angels wings taking our intentions direct to the Throne.
