There was some malware that got around and messed up people's DNS settings. The long and short is that if your computer is infected, your access to the internet will be cut come July 9 or whatever. The reason for this is that the FBI realized that shutting down the perpetrators servers would [url="http://www.latimes.com/business/technology/la-fi-tn-malware-internet-fbi-20120705,0,7018111.story"]have actually shut down the internet for any computer that was infected.[/url] That is why the FBI set up some temporary servers to keep infected computers connected to the internet. However, this temporary solution runs out this coming Monday.

This malware dates ba[url="http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/258846/there_is_no_excuse_for_still_being_infected_with_dnschanger.html"]ck to 2007[/url]. Since then, the FBI has caught the perpetrators and offered more than enough warnings for people. Companies such as [url="http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57467580-263/how-to-detect-and-fix-a-machine-infected-with-dnschanger/"]Google, Facebook, Comcast, ATT, and Verizon[/url] have warned people.

If you run decent virus/malware security, you should be fine. If you don't, you are rolling the dice on your internet connection and should probably get a decent security program.
