Therapy Over The Phone

I've scheduled an appointment with a therapist from http://www.catholictherapists.com/ but since there is no one in the state that I live in on the site, I'm going to do therapy with someone over the phone with someone in another state. Has anyone ever had experience doing this? I'm worried that there might be difficulties in doing this.

I do have experience with therapy, but never with this form. A difficulty may lie in the fact that you aren't speaking with the person face-to-face. Some people don't like or do well with phone conversations (myself included) because they can't see the other person. It really depends on how comfortable you are with that. If you need to speak over the phone and still want to be able to see the therapist, you could try something like Skype.

I think you should give the therapy a try and see how it works for you. You may find it a very easy and useful form of therapy, and you may not, but you'll never know that until you try it out.

I looked at the site and it says you can do it through cameras and such, so basically a Skype sort of thing. If you would be more comfortable with this than I would certainly ask the therapist you chose if he/she would be willing to do this. It may not be the same as being in the same room talking with each other personally, but it is better than nothing. I personally hate speaking over the phone and the video thing is definitely the way I would go.

I've had a long distance relationship with my SD since moving to Canada. It helped that we already had a relationship. This kind of thing is common here for people in remote areas.

Yes. My wife and I used phone counseling to strengthen our marriage, especially in communication. We found it very helpful and productive. It being via phone did not cause any problems for us. But our baby waking and needing mommy was a hindrance.

I actually find therapy over the phone easier than therapy in person. You can sit in the comfort of your home and focus on what really matters rather than on the fact that you are in some strange place, what the people in the waiting room were talking about, wondering what the look the doctor just gave you means... Other bonuses - saves on gas, don't have to get out of your pj's if you don't want to, no having to show up and then wait an hour, etc.
