PhuturePriest
No, just curious because obviously the Carmelite friars are not cloistered or monastic, since their work is not limited to praying, but the nuns are both cloistered and monastic. Just interested in how people see different communities.
Actually, there is a group of Carmelite Monks in Wyoming. They are the only Carmelite Monks in the world, if I understand correctly. I am discerning with them. They live the same life the Nuns do, and they are strictly cloistered.

emmaberry
I do wish there was a Marriage board.
What would you talk about on this marriage board? "I am engaged!" "My new girlfriend just met my family!" "Our friday night date went splendidly!" etc. Sorry -it is just funny to imagine. AveMariaPurissima
I voted for: Semi-contemplative (not cloistered) (because that's what the Trinitarians are ) Monastic (because we're monastic too) Cloistered (because I've always loved the Carmelites, even though now I don't think I'm called there.) In fact, Mother Lillie, our foundress, was a 3rd order Carmelite before she started the Trinitarians. So we definitely have some Carmelite influence. Queen'sDaughter
Monastic/cloistered for me. I believe that "monastic" refers to communities who pray the whole office, do not have an outside apostolate, but are not strictly enclosed. Like the medieval monasteries, that were homes of learning and art, with monks that did not as a rule leave, but did mingle with those that visited. Case in point: Benedictines of Mary!
Married life is an extremely complex business -- just look at the advice columns, or the number of married couples who seek counseling. I can think of a number of topics: in a Catholic marriage, how authoritative should the husband be? How submissive the wife? Who decides how and how much religious instruction should be given to the children? What if the wife is extremely devout but the husband less so, and this causes friction? And we haven't even mentioned the dread words "sex" and "money" yet!

organwerke
Judging by the way things feel for me now, I believe I am most drawn to a life that is both active and contemplative (with potentially a greater focus on the contemplative side). Either that or a missionary life.
So maybe the missionaries servants of the poor of the thirld world could be perfect for you!
