Independence Day Foods

I've been invited to an Independence Day party on Wednesday and I was trying to figure out what to bring. I am not an expert at cooking, but I do think it is fun and am more than willing to try new recipes. Some ideas I've thought of are:

Pulled pork
Watermelon
Egg salad/potato salad (don't have a recipe yet)
Fruit bowl
Home-made burger patties (don't have a recipe yet)
Chicken in a marinade

Do you have any fun suggestions for foods? Maybe desserts? They might be preferable but I'm not sure.

Thanks! :)

Black Cats, Roman Candles, sparklers, M-80's, and beer. That's all any party needs to be a success.

Make hawaiian chicken! That'd be yummy.

Or you could do bbq chicken and slow cook it. Mmmmm.

If you have time on your hands, you could make a red-white-and blue salad. In a big, clear bowl, layer red rasperries, watermelon, cherries, or other red fruit. Cover with a thick layer of cream cheese and cool whip (one package of each, mixed together). Add a layer of blueberries, and repeat!

I vote against whipped cream. Talk about a vile substance...

Cool whip? I agree. Homemade whipped cream? Delicious and amazing.

Not even close!

Cool whip ingredients:

WATER, HYDROGENATED VEGETABLE OIL (COCONUT AND PALM KERNEL OILS), HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, CORN SYRUP, SKIM MILK, LIGHT CREAM, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF SODIUM CASEINATE, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, XANTHAN AND GUAR GUMS, POLYSORBATE 60, SORBITAN MONOSTEARATE, BETA CAROTENE (COLOR).

Whipped Cream ingredients:
Heavy Whipping Cream

Not NEARLY the same thing.

Taking some of the artificial flavoring out of it doesn't mean you save it from tasting terrible. :P

SOME artificial flavor? Cool whip is mostly water, oil and corn syrup in various forms.
You may not like how either one tastes, but they are NOT the same thing!

I take it you are passionate about cooking? :P That's razzle dazzle. My sister and I have been making things from scratch, such as bread. It tastes so much better. Next we're going to tackle sour dough bread, which takes nine days to cook one loaf. It had better be the best bread I have ever tasted in my life.
