Byzantine
Should I be worried about getting paid lunch breaks (you know, not putting in a full day's work for a full day's pay) or should I just enjoy having a boss who gives them to me?
TheresaThoma
I would say your boss is defining a "full day" as being your work hours minus a lunch break. So if that is what is in your contract then my opinion is you are doing nothing wrong and enjoy your lunch breaks!
It's perfectly fine. If lunch breaks are paid then just that... they are paid. If they were unpaid, then your hourly wage would just be that much higher. Say you make $10 an hour working a 9 hr day with a 1 hr paid lunch (total of $100). If lunch was not paid, then your hourly wage would be $11.11 an hour with a 9 hr work day and an hour unpaid lunch. Everyone is supposed to get a 30 minute paid lunch from my understanding
No they don't. It's a gift if your employer chooses to do so. If you are sixteen or under, your State may have laws concerning breaks vs hours worked. Break down to biblical terms: Jesus told the parable of the workers who were hired to gather a harvest one day. Some were hired in the morning, some later, some in afternoon. All received the same pay and the ones who worked all day complained. Jesus pointed out the farmer was just that all got the same reward as that was what was agreed to prior. It's the master's prerogative. Theres nothing wrong if the employer wants to be more than generous. The nothing wrong with the afternoon worker getting paid relatively more than the all day workers. Note that Jesus also condemns collective bargaining since he didn't condone the workers coercing the farmer to pay equal pay for equal work. Lulz. MIKolbe
I'm salary, so i get paid lunches, paid weekends, paid vacations, paid sleeping, paid while awake. Basically, whenever my boss needs me, he gets me.

Byzantine
Haha thanks guys! Yeah, my boss is pretty amesome. Although he's a volunteer firefighter so our cleaning crew could be halved (there's four of us and two are firemen) in a moment. But I don't know if it's ever happened when I've been on.
