fides' Jack
Wow - I'm surprised Sacred Heart hasn't been evacuated - everything North of it has been. This is the highest priority fire in the nation - many homes burning now. 32,000 evacuees - including my coworker now. Pray for firefighters, who will be working all night, for the sisters and others who have had to evacuate, for those losing their homes as I type this, and for this community. Thanks
Deus te Amat
I am praying, friend. There was a fire where I am today -- it got up close and personal to town. Thankfully, they were able to put it out, mere feet from the nearest house. Is it safe to travel down this weekend, do you think?
TheresaThoma
Started reading up on the fires, then just got too depressed.
fides' Jack
It looks like it's more under control now. At least inside the city limits. I'm thinking this weekend you should be able to make it into town. You wouldn't have been able to yesterday, as evacuees were trying to get away, but I'm thinking now it would be no problem. They evacuated pretty much everything West of I25, but I think the fire pretty much stopped at Centennial (which is a ways West of I25). I thought earlier in the day that the fire wouldn't pass Centennial, and though I had doubts again later on, it appears I was right. Still, it's not completely over yet. Still watching... Lil Red
i feel your pain, FJ. there's 5 major fires burning right now here, and it's not even really fire season. this is a bad omen of what the summer is going to be like.
cmotherofpirl
I also feel your pain in a different way. We have a firebug running around our small town and had 16 fires in May, five of them within blocks of me.

Apparently there was a guy going around shooting propane tanks, starting several fires up in the mountains one county over. They haven't caught him yet, and they haven't said if he's a suspect in the Waldo Canyon fire, but they have a tip line open for people who were up in that area on Saturday to report suspicious activity. I remember the lady who started the Hayman fire - when she got out of jail, she had to move far away because people here were still upset about it and threatened her. Here is a good map when it gets updated: http://www3.gazette.com/fire/
