Slappo
I'm sorry, did you just say that guages are acceptable where nose rings are not?
No I think he was saying that facial piercings, gauges, earrings and dangly earrings are casual. Job interviews should be profession therefore he was indicatign that none of those items should be worn during an interview. I don't know that I entirely agree with him, but I don't think he was saying "wear your gauges but take out the nose ring".
Papist
Telling a dirty joke does not ease the tension. Trust me.
Anomaly
Your ego is offensive.
ROFFL. It's your ego that has the problem. Just because you like and want face piercings, facial ink, foot long lobes, doesn't mean other people like them. We are free to have our own interpretations and opinions of therm. I can accept yours may be different than mine. You may still be a great and wonderful person. I would (and do) question your judgement and ego if you insist on expressing a personal opinion on facial piercing during a job interview knowing that not everybody is as comfortable as you may be on this matter. I thought the idea was to make your best impression, not a potentially negative one at an interview?

I would never wear my nose ring into a professional interview. On the other hand, it might help seal the deal some places. That being said, I do think it's a little ridiculous to be OFFENDED or to feel DISRESPECTED by someone's piercing. They aren't doing anything TO you. I have a nose ring and I like it. If I cared what other people thought, I would have taken it out the same day I got it or not have gotten it at all. But I don't really care if you think I should have gotten a stud or nothing at all. Why? Because it's just not a big deal.
Anomaly
I am not offended by a nose ring, personally facial piercings make me feel uncomfortable for various personal reasons. I think most people in the US business world don't have a comfortable accepting opinion of facial piercings and don't have a neutral or positive cultural connotation of them. If I meet you socially, my feelings are neutral since its only a minor aspect of who you are as a person. In a business environment, I'm evaluating you within a specific and more narrow prism and context. Failure to recognize the limited context of an interview and demonstrating that you either don't see the context or just refuse to accommodate the different context would be interpreted as immaturity, ego, or ignorance. Definitely not a positive for an interview. Regardless, I was only saying others have the right to interpret your choices as they will. Others opinions only matter as much as you want them to. If I wanted to pierce my lip, I'd accept the odd looks and negative reactions because I want to look in the mirror and see who I want to be. Others are free to like or dislike me and they can behave accordingly. If I want them to like me, I'm also free to choose to modify my behavior or looks accordingly. No hate. Just the reality of freedom to hold and express different opinions.
