Anomaly
what's wrong with nose rings?
I've interviewed and hired a wide variety of people, from laborers to engineers and managers. Facial pier rings are the one thing that makes me uncomfortable if they have it in during the interview. It isn't mainstream and you have to know some people will be less then neutral feeling about it. I feel disrespected from the beginning of a meeting. After that, it's a matter of dress code. Facial piercing, guaged earrings, dangly earrings are casual. Good job on the interview. Even if you were recommended by a friend, you still have to impress to be hired.
I'm sorry, did you just say that guages are acceptable where nose rings are not? Regardless, I don't understand how MY nose ring is "disrespectful" to you. I have a feeling I should remove myself before I actually get angry. I was just joking around with Miko at first (since we just met), but now I'm getting irritated. To those uncomfortable with nose rings: how do you feel about nose piercings that are NOT rings? Do you prefer little blingy studs? Hate them all? Papist
I had a nose ring once. I sneezed and almost took my wife's eye out. I never put it back in.

If you aren't comfortable in your skin, why demand someone be comfortable with your choice? You don't interview for a job dressed to go clubbing or work in the yard. Maggyie
The rule is supposedly no perfume, minimal jewelry etc because you don't want to be distracting to the employer. You basically want to come off as a beige person except for your potential skills on the job, you don't want to give them any reason to think about your personal life because their opinions about your personal life may not be good ones. As far as they are concerned your personal life does not exist. When I was engaged I would remove my engagement ring during interviews. It's not a big flashy rock (it's a .5 carat solitaire) but I didn't want hiring managers noticing and then thinking hmmm. Engagement ring. Getting married soon. BRIDE BRAIN focused on bride things and not job. Inevitable maternity leave. Does she look pregnant already? Next candidate.
