Personally, I love how its switched from how this mandate is forced upon us, to how the Bishops are forcing 'dogma' upon others. Of which the term dogma is entirely misused and taken out of context. I love it. It's not even that leftist, I feel as if any ignoramas could have come up with this.

It's all good, no worries! : )

At least you can admit. Some other Catholics go that far and don't even think it's wrong. Those are the ones that give the rest of us a bad rap.

I sorta meant it jokingly but I realized how bad it was after I had posted it. Sorry again!

I understand this makes people feel ire, but this is what is called freedom of speech. People who spend their money to buy adverts get to choose the content, so long as said content falls within FCC guidelines and decency/obscenity laws. For every viewpoint there is an opposite one. So this one was aimed at Catholics...and there's surprise at that why? The Church is the largest Christian church in the world and it gets a lot of press. Julia Sweeney is a former Catholic. I doubt she'd be the one they go to to make a "break free from Islam" spot. Catholics find this upsetting? Get some money raised and buy a spot to refute. It's the public forum where ideas and opinions are freely exchanged. If you want people to take Catholics seriously, and if you want the Gospel spread, then be serious about it. Live it. Let your actions say more than millions of dollars of useless advertising.

As far as I'm aware, no network is forced to accept money from a group so that said group can show its ad.

In the United States, we only have freedom of speech from the government's censoring our ideas. Private companies (such as cable and satellite networks) can and should use discretion when deciding which commercials they will show.

science telling religion to renounce it's faith, LOL. Thats rich coming from science when less than 50% of actual science is actually practical and not theoretical, theres a differance between theology and theoretical. Plus science should stop letting the media lead people to thinking scientific theory is actual fact, and stop telling children in school there from monkeys when there are to many missing links. IDIOSARS! Any renound scientist will tell you that the theory of evolution from the primates is still theoretical(i think it was a uni proffessor that told me that.), why is it that amateurs always seem to have the loudest voice.

In any case, how is it different from the commercials for the Mormon church? It's proselytizing for a religion. The Catholic Church runs ads for itself as well.
Um - I'm pretty sure the Catholic Church doesn't run ads for itself. At least not TV ads...

I guess brochures count as ads...

You can only run ads if the network allows you. Don't get me wrong, I believe stations should have freedoms to choose what commercials they air...even if it seems hypocritical and arbitrary......just reminding that there are groups trying to run ads and getting turned down.
Nor do I think that just because the commercial is annoying/offensive/whatever it needs to be illegal. My point is that I lost some respect for the Science Channel after I saw this.

I'll probably still watch them though, just because I like planets and space and stuff.
