Crusader_4
i was just curious are the Clergy of the Church protected under the law in any way...for example, could something said in the seal of confession not allowed in a Court room or anything of that nature at all regarding the clergy? cappie
The seal of confession has always been the subject of some discussion in legal circles. I am not sure what happens in the USA but here in Australia it varies from state to state. In New South Wales, where I live, the State government passed a specific law protecting clergy from divulging anything learned in the hearing of confessions. Otherwise tha usual laws apply. A few months ago a member of the state legislature in South Australia tried to introduce a bill there to compel clergy to tell what they have learned, but it was defeated. Given the current publicity around clergy abuse cases I suppose it will be in the news for some time!!
