CatholicCid
Someone has a hatred for Microsoft. I'll be interested to see this when it comes out. Granted, I am in no way tech-savy, as others appear to be. Edited June 19, 2012 by CatholicCid
arfink
Yes. I think that some of their design decisions don't make any sense. Like the inability to cross compile from Windows RT to Win 8, which should be a no-brainer but MS doesn't seem to get it. You can cross compile from ARM Linux to x86 Linux and vice-versa if you have the dependencies, but in Windows you'd have to completely rewrite. Oh yes, and also UEFI. Locked bootloaders. This hardware will be a complete brick without Windows. Edited June 19, 2012 by arfink
Slappo
The keyboard is the winner here, but apple also has a $69 wireless keyboard. It also seems like it is being priced high - between $500-1000. My guess is that it flops.
I think the keyboard being part and parcel with the protective cover is what is win here. A wireless keyboard that you have to tote around with you is far out done by a mobile keyboard that triples as a mousepad and protective cover. Also, the ease of connecting it (magnetic strip) means the bluetooth wireless aspect of the apple keyboard is not a huge plus over the required connection of the surface keyboard. The screens on these tablet type devices are too small for really needing a wireless keyboard anyways. It isn't like I'm going to sit across my bedroom with my ipad on my dresser and type away. I wouldn't be able to read anything. I don't think Surface will be "the next big thing", but I don't know that it'll flop and lose money either. fides' Jack
In all honesty, there are a lot of linux builds that are far more unstable than XP or 7, both of which are good OS's. XP lasted like 10 years (a lot of people still have it) - to an android, that's almost an eternity.
