Nope. Vegan lesbian Muslim from Polynesia who works at a fair trade coffee shop and has a manga-looking tattoo of Karl Marx above her left breast.

A friendship is built upon what two people have in common. Most of the people on this forum would probably have little (if anything) in common with such a person, so attempts to form a friendship (as distinct from an acquaintanceship) with such a person would be unlikely to succeed. And considering that being a conservative Catholic is conducive to human flourishing, I'm not about to suggest that anyone change to have more in common with the type of person you mentioned.

Honey, I'm from a pretty rural part of Florida. You don't have to tell me about the benefits of not living in the city. But, you're from a state where the largest city is shared with another state, and the next largest metro area after that - Wichita - is the 86th largest in the country (just behind Boise, and several slots behind Toledo, Syracuse, and Akron, Ohio). It's not exactly the concrete jungle out there.
[/quote]

It's certainly not the concrete jungle. There are spacious plans as far as the eye can see, and despite popular belief, there are some unbelievably hilly areas around here. It's hard to find a flat spot, though trees are definitely not something you find often. My county shares three towns, the largest being the one I live in, and it has eight hundred people. The neighboring towns have about four hundred. The largest town within an hour is Dodge City which by normal Kansas standards has the gigantic population of about forty thousand people.

Oh, I forgot to add "honey" at the beginning.

And I'm not actually angry or anything, I just woke up at five in the morning and worked all day in the heat, so my normal zingers are about as common as finding someone in my area of the state that isn't white (For the record, there is only one black person in my town and a few Mexicans, so that puts my zingers at nearly 0%.).

It was funny, actually. Today I had the rare opportunity of seeing a black man -- from Africa, no less. It was quite the sight. You know you live in the middle of some town in Egypt when you see an African man and you are completely fascinated like you are seeing an alien or something. When FEMA was here one of the black women said we lived in a white colony. :hehe:

I'm sorry if I have offended anyone. I don't think I said anything offensive, but if I did I am sorry. I didn't intend to.

:goodnight:

I think you might have missed the subtlety of something called "humour" on this one.

No, actually Amory is correct. Once you've attained a certain level of holiness, you are called to eschew all types of relationships with people who don't share your impressive degree of piety and spiritual righteousness. The reason being that friendships are all about what you can "get out of" others. I mean, Jesus said that somewhere in one of those red-letter Bibles, right? You know, during one of His visits to the luxurious homes of the Sanhedrin where He would be hobnobbing with the Jewish elders and discussing how the meek of the Earth should be spit upon and that He was pro-stoning of admitted prostitutes.

Gosh, I hate when you can't find the Bible verse you're trying to cite. It's in there, I swear.

Once again you have proven there is a method to your madness. I was thinking about our conversation awhile back and how you thought I should go "out into the wild" for a bit before deciding to enter Religious life. All my life I have been obsessed with the Marines and I was watching a documentary on them today. I was thinking maybe four years of being yelled at makes for a good and disciplined Priest (Something we need these days). Plus, it just appeals to me so much. Good going, now my mother is going to shoot me just for thinking about it again...

Are you going to fulfill your duty, or obey orders? That's a decision you need to make prior to joining. This is a video showing cowardly thugs who obeyed unlawful orders.

Spacious plans? :hehe: Right on.

 You really do live in BFE. And just so you know, 800 people + farmland does not equal urban.

I live in a city (the city proper, not the metro area) with a population over 1 million and I consider this a pretty small place. I want to get to a BIGGER city. You live in a ... I don't even know what to call that.

At one time I had 800 friends on FACEBOOK. I would lose my mind in a place that small.

It's urban in our standards. There are many small towns here with only a few hundred people, and sometimes only a handful of people.

One million people is not small, that is gigantic. I think big-city people can lose a sense of what is big and what isn't. Here's the question I run through my mind: If it were an army, would it be huge? Eight hundred people is more a pitchfork and torch kind of thing, while one million people would be a huge army. The United States only has two million people in its military, almost one million of them being reservists.

If you want to get a sense of my town just message me. You can find bazzilions of pictures of it since we were hit by the tornado and everything.

Oh, and if you want to laugh at me further, my town is one mile wide and one mile long. However, we have a huge Kwik Shop that has its own store in it, so take that.

So FP is a homeschooled 14 year old who shops at a Kwik Mart and lives in a miniscule town in the middle of nowhere in Kansas.

I've been told that I have an active imagination. But seldom have I been accused of being clairvoyant. However, with these recent revelations about the life of my favorite little putz on Phatmass, the evidence is clear--I am a psychic. You are EXACTLY what I thought you were.

I think being from a small town, anything bigger than a couple thousand must seem huge. And yet, my city isn't huge. It's large, yes, but not huge.

Fifteen, my dear Watson, fifteen. Nearly sixteen, actually.

You never know. Soon I might be FP the home schooled eighteen year old who shops at Kwik Shop that lives in a miniscule town in Kansas and is a flippin' amesome Marine that can kill you with my pinky.

I am sure you are thinking that I am dreamy, masculine, nice, hilarious, and even a source of knowledge and experience.

Oh, and FP, what in the world is a Kwik Shop and what do you mean it has it's own store in it? Isn't Kwik Shop a store? I'm so confused. Also: 800 people live in one square mile? Dang.

I just checked a census report on my city and NYC.

Average number of persons per square mile, my city: just over 2.7K.
Average number of persons per square mile, NYC: just over 27K.
