Laser Engraving Concept Art

Thanks to your helpful input and suggestions I have begun work on concept art for the various things I will be making for sale on my laser cutter/engraver. Here is a first taste of some of my work:

These keychain concept drawings would, if executed, be done in acrylic plastic. Right now for the bunny (since he is the logo for my business, BunnyBox Design) I am favoring a transparent orange, for the sacred heart a two-tone glossy red and orange, and for the Phatmass I could do them in a wide variety of colore.

I just now realized I lapsed into fake Spanish there.

Another concept:

This concept has been roughly tested using paper mockups and will probably only require 3 or 4 laser-cut pieces to assemble. Assembly would likely be with a simple cyanoacrylate glue with perhaps mounting tabs of some sort.

[/quote]Not to be a Donald Downer, but what about product liability when someone shoots their freind in the eye, uses too strong of a band and it breaks sending debris in their own eye, modifies to shoot bands with staples or paperclips attached, etc., etc. etc.

I suggest you avoid toys and moving parts for a start-up. Go to a couple of craft/arts shows and see what's there. Don't tell them you are thinking of competing, but you can ask what sells/doesn't sell, etc. for products you like or are similar to what you want to produce. Of course, you'll get lots of new ideas as well.

Maybe use a disclaimer? I understand people in the US love to sue, but if people are going to be shooting each other in the eyes they deserve it. :)

But seriously, keep in mind this is entirely just concept work and I suspect you may misunderstand my reason for sharing this. These do not necessarily represent what my initial product lineup will be, but rather a random assortment of the various ideas I have had so far. I have in fact been to a number of various artsy/trade-show things and have spent a decent amount of time asking what sells and doesn't. I will continue to do so whenever I get the opportunity.

Finally, at best this will be a cottage-industry kind of thing for the near future. People selling rubber band guns on Etsy would fall into the same category as what I'd be doing, I suspect. Thanks for the input though, it's good to hear from people concerned for my success. I'll keep your words in mind.

Sixpence: how does this one look? Modelled off an actual Colt Woodsman. Sorta. This one is only one shot, but I have been having difficulty getting a 6-shot things working properly.
