Winchester
The states continue to roll out the defense of marriage......and stores still feel compelled to act by their lost compass. The meddling of businesses into the morals of society is dangerous in that businesses will decide what morals we follow......in essence, they will dictate our belief system.
Is that why you think flooping on camera is morally acceptable?
MissyP89
Hey, guys, guess what... Gay people exist. I don't think they're going to go away. In all seriousness, I have a sincere question as someone truly trying to understand this issue. What is it that conservatives want? Is the goal to make all gay people go back into "hiding," as it were? Are we trying to eliminate homosexuality from the public sphere? I'm keeping my own opinions out of this for now. Again, I'm just trying to understand the "Catholic position" regarding gay people in society.
1) Typically, I would call you out for dropping a tract on me, but I know your intentions were honest and for that I'll forgive you. 2) I'm already familiar with all of the material in the tract. It makes sense to me. What I'm asking about here is the specific reaction of Catholics to things like the ad in this thread. Would it be more appropriate to never show a homosexual couple anywhere? Are we actively attempting to stop that? In the case of the abortion debate here in America, our ultimate goal is to put an end to all abortions. Is there a similar "goal" with homosexuality? That is what I'm wondering. Edited June 7, 2012 by MissyP89

In the case of the abortion debate here in America, our ultimate goal is to put an end to all abortions. Is there a similar "goal" with homosexuality? That is what I'm wondering.
Sort of. Similar goal in that we would hope to end all homosexual acts. Of course, it seems some very small segment of the population will always have the cross to bear in that they will have same-sex attraction, so we will always have among us those who have this disordered desire. Similarly, we will always have pregnant women who may want to have an abortion. We will always have both groups....we would like to move towards a society where neither group acts on their desire. Does this mean that we can never portray people from either group? No. However, we should be careful to not portray people so that people are led to believe that the people are acting sinfully. In the case of the ad, I think it is fair to assume that the ad is attempting to normalize an active homosexual relationship. Now if we decide that this assumption is unfair, (perhaps it is)....then I would argue that the ad is wrong in very least that it portrays a same-sex couple raising children.
