Papist, does your wife do milk kefir, water kefir or both?
I know milk for sure. Not sure about water kefir. Probably so. There's just too many mason jars in the fridge I can't tell what is what. I really should post a picture of them.

You use a Greek yogurt culture (yes, there are different types). To make it really authentic you strain the whey out of it so it's really thick and creamy. I strain mine. It cuts 2 quarts of milk to about half that amount of yogurt once it's strained, but we like it better so it's worth it. My husband usually takes at least one cup of it to work to have with lunch every day. Generally we top it with blueberries (I buy them frozen and just put them in a bowl in the fridge to defrost... it's more economical than fresh). Sometimes I will make another fruit sauce to stir in, but the blueberries are my husband's favorite so I tend to stick with that since he eats most of it.

How often do you use master tonic? It sounds... interesting.
Normal usage is when you feel the early stages of cold/flu.etc. take up to 4 doses a day depending how you feel. Also, if there is sickness in the house you take a 1 dose per day to reduce risk of getting infected. Dose is a shot glass, gargle then swallow. It is a jolt. It is like taking a shot of tabasco sauce and vinegar. I am going to get my wife to chime in here with the recipe.

My Hubby said y'all were talking about Master Tonic now. It is some good stuff!

To make it, you cut up equal parts:
Ginger
Horseradish root
Garlic
Onion
Hot Peppers (e.g. jalapenos and hotter if you can take it.)

Don't bother with peeling and deseeding or anything fancy like that. It all gets strained out in the end, but do wear gloves!

Put all that stuff in a jar or jars and cover with raw apple cider vinegar (I use Braggs). Put it in a dark c0ol place for two weeks. If you give it a shake or jostle or a swirl once a day, that is good. But I often forget b/c it is in a cupboard somewhere.

After two weeks, strain it and bottle it. (I use repurposed salad dressing bottles, just for an example.) It does not need to be refrigerated (nothing pathogenic could survive in there anyways!)
Some people do save the hot veggies to add to stir fries or soups or other things like that... but I don't. There's only so much I can do, and no one would be able to eat the food if i used that to season it anyways.

And as Papist said, you just take it whenever you want, basically. If the kiddos are sick and I don't want to catch it, I take at least a TBS per day until everyone is better. if I feel something coming on, I will take a TBS about 2-4 times per day. I don't think you can OD on it, so it is safe to take it often, and probably more effective anyways.

I did catch a cold this week, but it is the second day of the cold and I am already over the hump, thanks to the Master Tonic. The first season I used it, I did manage to avoid catching any colds from the kids for the first time since I started having children!

Once you start taking to fend off the ickies, it goes fast! So just keep in mind that if you are down to your last bottle or two, it's time to make more since it takes two weeks to be ready.

Bottoms up!

I could probably handle that. When I found a recipe online my first thought was "I don't think I could be dedicated enough to drink some of that every day." haha

When I feel like I'm starting to come down with something I drink lemon-cayenne-honey tea. I am sure if I took the master tonic and followed it with my usual it'd be ok.

Now I'm just wondering where I can find fresh horseradish root locally....
