It took me a few years to finally buckle down and do it. My mother in law has been making her own for at least 5 years now. SHE inspires me. haha

Yesterday I had about 10 tubs of yogurt in the fridge. Tonight I have 2.

Probably around 150... I've seen some videos and tutorials that utilize the ovens warm setting, I'll see if I can find one tomorrow (posting from the kindle right now and too lazy to go out to my.comp and look some up).

Still waiting for you to do my research for me. :|

I'm going to pretend that I didn't forget about this all day. :|

Oven method:

http://annies-eats.com/2012/03/08/diy-greek-yogurt/

Cooler method:

http://frugalgranola.com/2010/07/how-to-make-yogurt/

This lady briefly covers a few methods:
http://www.salad-in-...-a-yogurt-maker

Crockpot method (this requires more attention):
http://crockpot365.b...r-crockpot.html
http://heartlandrena...er-week-yogurt/

I was trying to find a video I watched of a guy making it in his oven but I couldn't find it, even when I sifted through my history. :/ It was a pretty neat video.

The last link is what I used the first time. I think I'll try a more precise method and if I decide to try the crock pot method again, I'll first see what temps my crock pot gets to/how long it stays there, etc. I'll probably try the oven method.
Thanks. :)

Using the crock pot was the only time I had my yogurt fail, but I don't think I did it right, it was one of the first times I'd tried it. Made me mad because using the turkey roaster had been working perfectly. I should never have switched methods at that point. lol The yogurt maker was worth the expense once I decided that this was going to be a regular thing, though, because the model I bought is somewhat smaller than a gallon of milk. Takes up way less space than the turkey roaster and generates less heat in the kitchen. :)

My wife uses the cooler method. She purchased a electric heat pad to better control the temp. And kitchen stewardship is probably her most visited website.

I am going to send yogurt-making websites to my little brother and hope he suddenly wants to make some :P O and we could put our own honey into it :winner: !!!! Him and my dad love doing weird stuff like this... making maple syrup, honey, bread cultures...I will try to see if yogurt can be added to the list :)

I wish I could keep bees again... I only did it for a year in highschool, but it would be so amesome to have that rich, raw, local pollens honey without paying an arm and a leg for it. lol My family, this week, as decided that they love honey in their yogurt. I think it may even replace blueberries. We ran out last night and I offered to defrost some for my husband but he told me no, he was just going to use the honey. "You can defrost it and I'll eat it eventually, but for now I'll stick with the honey." I told him if he likes the honey better I'm not going to bother with the berries anymore so he better tell me how he wants to eat it. lol

I just had another thought for Papist, if you like to drink your yogurt through a straw you might really enjoy Kefir. All you have to do is put the grains in the milk and let it sit on the counter for a day. No heat source required. The grains can be re-used over and over so your wife would never have to buy them again. I've read about people using them for years. They grow and multiply so you can give some away if you end up with too much.

So, I'm going to make my second batch using the oven method today. I was going to last night, but I broke the thermometer. <_< Hint: Glass WILL break when struck against stainless steel. Anyway, the first time, it turned out great. :yahoo: I'm currently eating a smoothie made with frozen fruit and homemade yogurt. So tasty. I'm SOOO glad that I got this to work, since I need to keep up with my yogurt eating, since I just was put on an antibiotic that will wipe everything out, and this is soooo much cheaper than buying yogurt!

Just read this. My wife does kefir. She makes a kefir concoction daily. I swear sometimes I think she is a witch. Have you ever heard of master tonic?
