Winchester
[quote name='beatitude' timestamp='1338935305' post='2441467'] The royal guards haven't been charging down Pall Mall lately bayoneting babies. We don't live in an absolute monarchy where the Queen's word is law. While I thought that the cost of the jubilee was crass and unjustifiable at a time when so many people are out of work, I also know that it is not the monarchy that is responsible for poverty and unemployment in Britain - I apportion more blame to actual decision-makers. I don't see any legitimate reason why anybody would have so much ill will towards the queen as a person, irrespective of their stance on the monarchy. If we lived in some banana republic where thousands died at the ruler's whim, it would be a different story, but we don't. Your post made it sound as though Britons are undergoing deeply traumatising experiences at the hands of the monarchy and therefore we can be given a pass if we decide to express our views without any regard for basic principles of kindness. Spem in alium
I love the Queen - she's so cute! I managed to catch a glimpse of her a couple of years ago when she came to Oz. I was in high school and she drove past our school. We all crowded on the street waving to her. It was great Charles has a pretty depressing job though - just hanging around waiting for his mum to die. Still, I think he fills up his time pretty well. And it's great to see the family (William and Harry in particular) connecting with everyday people and working with charities.
