yellow sac spider....common around here in doors. Has necrotic venom that can give you a bit of a lesion, but not really deadly.

the species around here (east coast) has black feet.

Ooh! Your an entomologist? I must remember this. I had an introductory entomology class this semester and will be taking an insect pest management course in the spring! I've enjoyed it more than I thought I would going in. I had a "cow ant" bite me when I was little and it hurt like hell. It gave me a healthy fear of bugs for quite some time, but learning about them is pretty cool. Do you work for a university or extension service?

Those are EVERYWHERE in our house. I used to think you were cute, but now they're kind of annoying.

Why do moths release a puff of smoke when they are smushed?

Well, I guess smoke isn't the right word, it's more like a puff of dust.

FYI:
to the public the word "bug" refers to any type of crawling thing you can think of... centipedes, millipedes, scorpions, insects, worms, spiders, etc.

to entomologists the word "bug" refers Specifically to Insects within the Order Hemiptera. This includes things like aphids, stinkbugs, leafhoppers, cicadas, assassin bugs etc.

but also means cold or flu.

ah daddy long legs

Are there any bugs that are toxic?  Like the poison dart frog or funnel spider.
