Papist
Yay! My son loves looking at pics of life forms too. They are definitely fun to look at and can sure stir the imagination. It would be nice to go through and add descriptions for each pic for those time when our kids point at every obscure creature and say, what's this?
Yes. That is what he is doing. "Daddy, what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called? what's that called?" Why is giant swallowtail so big? Which is bigger, giant swallowtail or blue morpho? What is the biggest butterfly? What is the biggest moth?
1. Sometimes it is hard to tell why animals look the way they do!! One reason might be that it helps them to fly faster! 2. There are actually a lot of different kinds of blue morphos! Some are larger then giant swallowtails, others are smaller! I have one I got in Costa Rica that is about the size of a monarch butterfly! 3. The largest butterfly is aptly name "Queen Alexandra's Birdwing"!! The wingspan can be a foot long!! Unfortunately, the males are much prettier than the females This is a male! (The female is black and brown) 4. The biggest moth is the Atlas moth! It can also get to be a foot long!!
Why do bugs fly into the light?
That phenomenon is called phototaxis. This question is not really settled! Obviously it developed before porch-lights! One explanation is that an insect being pursued by a predator might have better luck flying upwards towards the light (sun or moon).

I should have noted my questions are from a 5yo. Thanks for the answers. Although, usually answers spawn more questions. He's going to love the pics. His butterfly hatched, or whatever you call the chrysalis to butterfly process, on Thursday. And he got to witness it. My wife said he was excited as any dad during the birth of his first child. He wants to donate it to the Nature Museum where they have a butterfly sanctuary.
