Mistake? Really?
For a president of our nation to have so grossly neglected his history lessons would be like a Roman Emperor refusing to learn Latin or an electrical engineer refusing to learn math. This is just absurd.

Or maybe he just misspoke. Somehow I really, really, really, really doubt that Obama is unaware that Germany invaded Poland.

Sorry, I won't hijack anymore...

I am perfectly happy to talk about how IRRITATED I am that the government is treating us like toddlers. :)

I also would be willing to bet if George Bush had said this the entire country would be in an uproar if he had not apologized and still would be even if he made the prettiest apology the world had ever seen...

There's that conservative victimhood mentality.

I really doubt that any reasonable person would view the event, coming from either President, as anything other than an instance of misspeaking.

Oh dear, you must've come from a time machine... See, here in the 21st century, there are these two news stations called MSNBC and CNN. They would rant and whine all day if George Bush went to golf every once in a while as president because he needed a break... Oh wait...

[/quote]As a grown adult in charge of a country, our president should have the decency to apologize to a nation which he has offend. Whether he thinks that it is anything big or not, he could just try a little humility and say he is sorry. I would have expected the same thing from Bush...

As a huge hater of Poland, I applaud Obama's efforts.

I doubt CNN would make a big deal of it. Some tool on MSNBC might, but that's why I said reasonable people. There are all sorts of people who will take any opportunity to beesh about what the other side does. Hence this discussion about Obama's subtle attempt to shift war guilt from Germany to Poland. And I'm sure that some tool on Fox or the right wing radio stations will make a huge stink over this. Just like Air America or someone on MSNBC might have done had this been Bush. But you said 'national uproar'. Most people are not bat chit crazy and would realize in either instance that this was simply and only a speaking error and obviously neither President was unaware of the actual history or attempting to shift blame on the wrong side.

Just as people on the left jumping up and down and saying "Look what a monkey-idiot Bush is!" every time he misspoke only served to make them look stupid and weaken their position, those on the right get the same result for doing something like this.

With as many shortcomings throughout the four years of his presidency that you have to pick from, picking this only makes you look petty and gives the appearance of not having any complaints with substance.
