Obedience isn't easy, but blind obedience is.
Who here advocates blind obedience?

I won't name names, and certainly the majority doesn't, but there is a minority chorus voices who seem to do so.

I think phishies should be able to get some type of props.. maybe they could be phishy props that don't count towards the normal prop count, or maybe they could be like... a phishy person needs to get 2 props in order to get one normal prop...
I second that! Something should be done.

Its not like the props represent how catholic the poster is, just how much people like their posts. therefore, i see no reason not to allow them for phishy's, after all non catholics can get them

I can respect a man who is intellectually honest. It's not an easy thing to be.

Seems like the easy way out.

While I'll refuse to judge the personal character of any individual phatmassers one way or the other I'll just say that I don't believe that disagreeing with Church teaching on any particular moral issue is in itself the sign of any kind of special courage or intellectual integrity.

As part of being a Catholic is giving the assent of one's will to following the Church's teachings, whether one fully understands them or not, it seems that if one believes strongly that the Church is wrong about some moral teaching or another, one should not call oneself "Catholic." If the Catholic Church does not truly hand down the teachings of Christ on Faith and morals infallibly, but instead is either lying or deluded, then there is no good reason to be part of one's Church. If you don't believe the Church is right in Her moral or theological teachings, you should be honest and call yourself protestant instead.

Sadly, it seems that in 21st century America, the line of "I'm a faithful Catholic, but disagree with Church on such-and-such" is now the norm, rather than the courageous exception. Just look at nearly every Catholic Dem politician since Jack Kennedy. Polls consistently show that sizable majorities of self-identified "Catholics" in America disagree with the Church on moral matters such as contraception, abortion, sex out of wedlock, and homosexuality. And it seems that such views are generally received much more warmly by the secular world than those who obey the Church even on those teachings that are unpopular, difficult, or politically-incorrect.

But what the hell, let's praise all those brave souls out there who undergo the hard, hard struggle of standing up for intellectual honesty against the unpopular moral teachings of the Church, and bash the minority of mindless drones who take the easy way out of stupidly and blindly giving assent to unpopular and difficult moral teachings.
