No More Debates?

So, I've been here long enough now that I recognize that absolutely everything has already been debated on PM (gay, straight, too much holding hands, not enough holding hands, galileo, inquisition, all of history, what the Pope meant by using the word "the" in his sentence, etc...).

What I'm wondering is how the people who have been here forever respond to all the rehashes of old arguments? Like, how many times have you seen debates about "gay this" and "gay that"? Do you just leave the debate table alone, or do you keep going back to try to defend your opinion or the Church or whatever, just to have to do it again another day? Is it a cycle, in which you give up for a while, and then go back and start debating the same debates again after a few months?

It seems to me that the only original board left is the lame board. Maybe I should just take a PM break...

it seems like Aloysius is one of the only ones left who has the kind of energy and patience to re-hash the same debates over and over again, with an abundance of charity. i only wish i could do the same.

It depends on the topic, the poster, and my current sense of humor.

edit: I think we need a phatmass project to keep us fresh, any suggestions?

This actually came up at the meet-up. I submit that it is not a particular bad thing b/c PM as a lot of lurkers and newbs that may be new to the such redundant topics, which may benefit from the current debate. The downside is that the newbs will probably not understand some people's tongue-in-cheek posts that references the past or think someone is being mean/hurtful.

I tried a fun new debate topic, but I got shot down.

I have another idea, but I don't want things to get too rough so I haven't proposed it yet: Star Trek vs. Star Wars.

Actually, though the debates we have now might feel repetitive, I feel like they go in cycles. Years ago it was a slew of different topics. Now it's what we have. It really depends on what's going on. Politics, however, are always in vogue.
