Any Ideas?

I wanted to go to a catholic camp this summer but I don't have enough money! How could I get enough money to go? My mom told me to get a job but I don't know what job I would get...

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Ask your parish to sponsor you.

Ask the camp about scholarships.

Get a job.

Work at your parish organizing files. (Some parishes are TOTALLY unorganized in their records. It's bad.)

With your parents permission of course...
In your neighborhood offer to:
-wash cars
-wash dogs
-baby sit
-clean house
-do yard work
-do household tasks like cleaning windows, organizing a room, etc.
-elderly/handicapped people often have things they need to have done and will welcome able bodied help they can supervise
-other tasks they may suggest.

Go to neighbors you know and only with your parents permission/knowledge. Tell them what you are earning money for and how much you need. Price either by job or per hour rate. For example, $5 for cars, $10 for medium/large dogs. Or estimate how long it will take you to do something and figure $5/$7 an hour and give them a set price. If it takes longer than you estimated, welcome to the risk of business. DON'T offer to clean house at an hourly rate. They don't know how fast or efficient you work. Lot's of people (me for example) want you to tell me how much you will charge to do something. If I see it takes you longer and you're working hard, (and it's for a good thing, like camp) I'll often pay more. Like the real world, you work first, get paid after the job is done and the customer is satisfactied.

Groo the Wanderer

rob a bank

raise llamas

steal other people's llamas and sell them

write haikus and sell them

write haikus about stealing llamas and holding up banks, then sell them

mow yards (with a llama)

Depending on how much you have to earn and how much time you have, a fundraiser type thing is probably the best.

If you've got a while (more than three months? Ish?) you could look into getting a summer job. I'm teaching piano lessons and working at a local ranch this summer to pay for college, so we're in the same boat. :P

A job that will pay justly for the work your able to do.

What answer do you want? Are there not businesses near your home? Is transportation an issue?

How long do you have, and how long is the camp? If the camp's only for about a week or so and it's near the end of the summer, I'd look into a summer job. The food service industry isn't glamorous, but it's got a high turnover rate and as long as you can follow directions and handle some stress most places will hire you. Those jobs are easy to quit, too.

Otherwise, I'd stick with offering to do yardwork or babysitting or something. Could you put an ad in your parish bulletin? That's what kids by me do, or put up a sign on a message board in the church vestibule. Could the grounds-crew-people at your parish use some extra help? Do you make things? Could a local Catholic bookstore use an extra hand?

Go to another local Catholic church and find out who is going from their youth group. Then get there when the camp opens and claim to be one of those people!! Get registered, take the little welcoming basket and BLEND IN for the next five days! If halfway through you are feeling guilty, ask to go to confession!!

I have worked in a family restaurant for most of my life, and it is a terrible job. Seriously. I wish my dad could've been an architect or something. However, I do get paid quite a bit, and it all adds up over time.

Ask the Knights of Columbus. Ours sends kids every summer.
[/quote]I think her mom may want her to earn the money.

I've worked in restaurants and loved it. Some people aren't made for the work. Some are. Don't be hatin'.

i think it still would be great that you show some initiative and try to do things (particularly like what Anomaly suggested) to off-set the cost. i think it's great that your parents want you to go and are willing to sacrifice, but you should too. ;) :)
