dUSt
So, what's the big deal about this "vatileaks" scandal? I've read a lot about it, but haven't seen anything that actually makes it so scandalous.
HisChildForever
I was thinking the same earlier after I read a news article on it. From what I gather, there are some confidential documents that the Pope's butler stole which reveal corruption among members of the hierarchy. The butler said he would cooperate with investigators, so I'm not sure if that means the information in the documents will be brought into the open or what. Lisa
Supposedly, all the documents point towards a "bitter power struggle," especially over Vatican's Secretary of State, Tarcisio Bertone. There's evidently also a conspiracy to "conquer the conclave" and make someone the next pope. dUSt
Oh, so stuff that's been happening in the church for the past 2000 years. Wow, what amazing news.
kujo
Anybody ever heard of the Borgia pope? This "leak" ain't a drop in the bucket compared to THAT bout of ecclesiastical corruption.

Papist
Didn't someone leak that the Pope was going to approve the SSPX statement(Doctrinal Preamble?) to the CDF. The SSPX wanted the Pope to review their statement to the CDF before they presented it. Pope did and personally approved. That got leaked. Where's Aloysius when you need him. I mean I understand that the Church is composed of sinful men yada yada yada but it seems like that recognition that some sin will exist is leading to a general apathy about the corruption that currently exists in the Church.
I'm not saying that it's right. But I just see a lot of posts here about how Catholics today don't take Catholicism seriously or mass attendance is in decline or whatever. It's like, well no poo. I mean if there is corruption in the hierarchy, serious corruption and the best Catholics around have taken a fatalistic attitude about that corruption then why would people on the periphery stick around. I just mean that all this talk about all the external influences that draw Catholics away, maybe there should be more attention payed to what sort of messages are being sent to the exterior from the heart and soul of the Church.
No kidding. Luther's originally was abut Doctrinal reforms, not Dogmatic reforms, and look what happened. If the Emperor had just decided to put on some pantaloons, he'd still be the Emperor.
