After watching this video and seeing some other promotional material I must say it looks pretty epic. Thoughts?

(BTW being new here I should probably put it out there that I am a big movie buff)

i saw the movie...i suggest u see it as well. it is about a period in mexican history that is rarely talked about... unless u had family from there who told the stories over and over again. the movie is inspiring and pushes the question, "how far would you go for religious freedom?"

Indeed. It's on my list. I also think it has some relevance to the current events of today.

at the preview I attended, a distributor of the film said the same thing. we think it couldn't happen, and there are those who scoff the persecution of Christians... but as this movie shows, it can happen overnight and be enforced in brutal ways..

Indeed. And many associated with the film have discussed how well the timing is. Yes things here are far from what happened in Mexico, but who is to say that something similar or more extreme than the current state couldn't happen? Plus I love that it finally gives the people who risked their lives for their right to express their faith some attention. Its part of our history simply as Catholics...and we should care.

History repeats itself, perhaps not in the exact same way each time but to think our own time and place cannot have such hate even from a government who we think is supposed to protect us is mistaken. We dont want to think our comfortable safe lives with our supposedly decent governments could be like something from the past. Freedom isnt free, what we enjoy right now is the fruit of others labors and a gift from God. I posted that first thing in an attempt to elicit a more thoughtful reply than what I came up with myself for those who might ask the same questions or think the same things.

Totally agree. Its the moment when you think you are most safe and free from danger that it strikes.

Violence. CNS only rates it A-III, though.

As to the rating, there's quite a bit of violence and uncensored depictions of execution.
