I'm starting a thread for those of us who sing alto. Sopranos get all the glory, but altos are the ones who make the music sound razzle dazzle. ;)

You know what the definition of an alto is?

A soprano who can read music.

My mom was a music teacher and I became her alto. Over four generations we had a Bass (great grandpa) Tenor (grandpa) Soprano (mom) and me. Unfortunately my husband (bass/baritone) never got to sing with my grandpa and mom. We could have had a quartet!

Sopranos have to work much harder!
When I was in choir the altos just kind of sang the same note over and over, we sopranos had to hit all those high notes and actually remember more than one word a song.
:hehe2:

Dang right!! And we love it!
I would say second place for amesomeness in choir would be tenors, though, not altos! :harhar:

 lol. You're harsh! I have known some sopranos about whom this is true, however.

Altos get all the best parts. Proud to be one!

Sometimes our line is weird to sing, but it's more fun to learn, and sing once I know it. Our choir director is a soprano, but there have been quite a number of instances where she's said she likes the alto line of a given piece better than the soprano! :hehe2:

In our choir, that would be the basses...We four of them and only one tenor. One of our basses is amazingly good.

My voice is mid-range, I think. But I love (and am better at) singing the lower notes =)

I now have a much greater respect for altos and basses than I had earlier. I went to the most amazing chamber choir concert and was absolutely amazed at how good they were!!!! Wow. :proud:

I'm an alto! (but can change to soprano if needed...)

Yeah...once in a while we altos have to sing some rather high notes; I can reach them if I have to, but I'm more comfortable singing lower.
